Greatest Hits by Patty Loveless (CD, May-1993, MCA Records USA)

I recently took this Patty Loveless "Greatest Hits" CD in an effort to complete my Patty Loveless album (CD) collection. (I have one more of Patty's albums (CD) to go, which is her very first album entitled simply "Patty Loveless" and once I obtain this, it will finally complete the collection). This is because in my opinion, Patty Loveless is the number one, best female Country Music artist on the planet. In my opinion, no one comes close to Patty. Patty, who hales from Pikeville, KY is 100% authentic Country/Mountain/Appalachian and has the voice to prove it. No one can match that hauntingly beautiful 'mountain voice' Patty possesses. She grew up in the shadows of the 'coal mines of Eastern Kentucky'. Coal mining runs in her family, which in my book, makes her as authentic as authentic can be. (Patty's roots run deep in coal mining country and this is what I mean about her being 'authentic'. She is not one of the oh-so-many 'pre-manufactured, mass-marketed' performers that are churned out today like there's no tomorrow. Patty's dad passed away [in 1979] from black-lung disease, as did her grand-dad. Patty will tell you herself, it's very hard to ever escape those coal mines. Like her dad and her grand-dad before him, when you're digging in those coal mines, you're digging your own grave). Aside from Patty's obvious beauty and her beautiful authentic 'mountain voice', one thing I love about her is that she so quitely goes about her business of making the beautiful music she makes. She does not worry about all kinds of super media hype and interviews and appearances and banners and big flashing lights, etc, etc. She just quitely goes about her business knowing that her music makes it's way to her real and true fans (like me). And she does it without all the hype and hoopla other performers seem to live and thrive on. For those of you who don't know, Patty also has two very famous cousins in the Country Music Biz as well. Loretta Lynn (the original coal miners daughter) and Crystal Gayle. For those of you who did not know this.

I've always loved the voice on this lady. Patty is true country and I appreciate that. My favorite song on this CD is "Hurt Me Bad" (in a real good way). I think there's many of us out there who's lived this song. Sing on Patty...I'll always be a fan of you and your type of music!

This is a great CD for chicks that like to sing along with Patty in their car, kitchen, or back yard. There is mixed tempos in the songs and it keeps your attention. This is a country gem!

I like her wholesome voice. She's real country and that's getting harder and harder to find. Perfect CD.
