The Great War and Modern Memory
This is a great book--pack full of information and insight--but not the type of book to be read easily for pure entertainment. The author has researched the topic of World War I extensively. His emphasis takes the reader past the historical facts of the war to the literary representation of it. He compares writing styles before and after the war, and his conclusions are breath taking. For anyone who has a serious curiosity for humanities, history, and/or language arts, this is a book not to be overlooked. Its bibliography also is a great source. My only negative criticism is the small font size of the print.
