Album Notes Personnel includes: Marc Bolan (vocals, guitar, Mellotron); Miller Anderson (guitar); Billy Preston (keyboards); Steve Currie (bass); Bill Legend (drums); Flo & Eddie, Gloria Jones (background vocals). Recorded between January 1972 and August 1977. Includes liner notes by Mark Paytress. All tracks have been digitally remastered. During its heyday in the 1970s, T. Rex ascended to the upper reaches of the pop charts in its native England 10 times. An inveterate singles band, T. Rex pumped out innumerable non-LP B-sides, and the good news is that many of the 25 B-sides gathered here rock and sizzle with the swagger of the band's best stuff. As one would expect, this is a mixed bag. The songs don't stray far from the classic T. Rex formula--simple punchy guitar riffs, solid drumming, and Bolan's distinctive vocals. "Boomerang Baby," with its 12-bar blues structure, sounds like a lost New York Dolls song. Bolan shows his affinity for oldie covers with T-Rex takes on "Do You Wanna Dance?" and "Dock of the Bay," featuring the vocals of Bolan gal pal Gloria Jones. Elsewhere, songs like "Baby Strange" and "Solid Baby" sound like classic T. Rex. Though lyrically it may not be Shakespeare, "Life's an Elevator" is an enchanting acoustic number, with Bolan's insinuating voice spreading like honey over crisply picked guitar strings. Other highlights include the lilting "Groove a Little," and the irresistible "Jitterbug Love," which would be an A-side for any other band.
