Album Notes The Peanut Butter Conspiracy: Jim Voigt, Alan Brackett, Bill Wolff, John Merrill, Barbara "Sandi" Robinson. Originally released on Columbia Records (CS 9590). Vintage '60s California folk-pop psychedelia--it practically reeks of incense, patchouli oil, andà.well, you know what (if you need a hint, check out song titles like "Turn On a Friend," "Lonely Leaf," and "Invasion of the Poppy People.") Most of the time, the Conspiracy sounds like a cross between the the Byrds, the Hollies, the Mamas and Papas, Jefferson Airplane, and Spanky and Our Gang, which is to say there're lots of twelve-string guitars decorated by soaring harmonies here. "I'm a Fool" and "It's so Hard" (a failed single heard here in the original mono) add violins to the mix, apparently in search of a more middle-of-the-road sound akin to the Fifth Dimension.
