Grayson by Lynne Cox (2006, Hardcover)

Each year I pick one of the books I've read to give as a gift to my good friends, teachers, mail man, etc. In the past I have chosen The Secret Lives of Bees, The Red Tent, The Summer Guest (Justin Cronin), and many others. I have chosen Grayson by Lynne Cox for it's universal appeal.

This book is in a category by itself because you can actually share it with your children and your family. It is the story of a young girl (17) who is swimming off the coast of Southern California and sees a baby grey whale. She then tries to help the whale find it's mother. The girl realizes that the whale is following her and if she swims to shore the young whale will die. What does she do?

I think anyone from age 5-100 will love this story. If you love the ocean, the beach, or whales you will enjoy it even more. Written in a clear voice that pulls the reader in right away. One other plus is it is very short and can be read in one day!

If you need to give a gift this holiday season this is the one I would highly recommend from an avid reader!

This is a really sweet book. An easy read with big print so it works for young children or us older folks with bad eyes. A story about a young girl interacting with a whale, both searching and together finding much more than the sum of their desires. A+

Unbelievable true story. Lynne Cox, a world class swimmer gets to swim with a baby whale who has lost its mother. The motivational story is wonderful for men, women, boys and girls.

GRAYSON is an amazing little book with a BIG true story! Living on the coast of Southern California makes this book even more appealing and appreciated. Soon the gray whales will be migrating down our coast south to Mexico to have more Grayson's. If only all books could be so lovingly written! It shares the deep secret of compassion found in the beauty of God's creation! Definately a glimpse of Heaven! This is one of those books you want to buy every reader you know young and old! And you won't be able to put it down yourself!

I was interested in this book,after reading about it in a flyer that came in the mail about books. I love the beach as does my grandaughter who is 10 years old, this book I found very reasonable on e-bay and bought it, it is a gift to her, the book is used but in excelent like new condition, I decided to buy it because it was a great price .

What an absolute GEM of a book. This is a book everyone should own and have in their own home library. A beautiful book that reads almost like a fairy tale, only it's absolutely true. This is a nonfiction book about a young girl's morning swim in the ocean and the wonderful adventure it turns into. She befriends a lost baby whale and helps him in his search for his mother. This book is simply enchanting. I loved this book so much that I bought it for my granddaughter for her 11th birthday. I highly recommend this sweet book for everyone, young and old!
