Grave Surprise by Charlaine Harris (2006, Hardcover)

Originally, I started reading the Sookie Stackhouse novels...read all those and next moved to Harper and Tolliver. Grave Surprise is the second book about the adventures or misadventures of Harper & Tolliver. I enjoyed these two characters; they are smart, yet down home; sensitive and honest. The story may start a bit slow; however, my interest began to perk as I read more. These characters allow you to follow along for the ride and peek into their past. Those of us, who have had rocky childhoods, can appreciate how Harper & Tolliver came to be.

I am a big Charlaine Harris fan, of her Southern Vamps series. This is part of a different series and although it is good its not quite as good as the other series. I have not fully invested in these characters but still an interesting read.

I liked this book better than the first in the series and now I can't wait to read the next one. If you like Charlaine Harris' other series you will like this one, too.

I find all of Charlaine Harris's books to be somewhat overrated, so naturally I was a little disappointed with this. She does make for an easy read, though, and her stories have "just enough" in them to keep you going, especially when you're in the mood for "simple." I admit, I've read quite a few of her books, but prefer using the library rather than purchasing (unless I need something quick, because there's always a "wait list" at the library for her books) but would never shell out the money for a HC. Great as beach reads, trip reads (airline, hotel), or lazy-day reads, though.

I love the way Charlaine Harris write. Her books build suspense and it is
hard to put the book down.
