I found this book very interesting. It definitely has a unique heroine. She senses dead bodies and can tell how they died, but not much else. Normally she finds the body, reports how they died and moves on. However, the books focus on cases that don't go quite as quickly and she stays until the case is actually solved. The mystery is pretty good, I figured out who did it about middle way, but it was still good to find out I was right and why it was done. The most interesting parts of the book however, are the personal relationships and peoples' reactions to Harper. They want her information but treat her like a criminal. Not a pretty picture of society but a pretty accurate one. I liked the book, but so far I have liked everything I have read by Charlaine Harris. I especially recommend her Southern Vampire series. Great stuff.

LOVED IT! CREEPY ENOUGH TO BE A GREAT READ WITHOUT BEING OVERBOARD SCARY. SUSPENSE, MYSTERY. NOT A LOT OF GORE. I JUST WISH SHE WOULD RIGHT THESE HARPER CONNELLY STORIES FASTER! CHARACTERS ARE REGULAR PEOPLE, MORE COUNTRY THAN CITY, DOWN TO EARTH BELIEVABLE. GREAT, GREAT, GREAT.

After reading book 3 of this series that was borrowed from a friend, I wanted to read the previous ones. Found it on Ebay at a great price and it was delivered very quickly. Very happy with my purchase.

  Charlaine Harris' New Series
Review created: 10/01/09

I bought this book because I loved the "Sookie" series so much and wanted something else to enjoy while waiting for the next Southern Vampire book to be released. It is very different, but became attached to the characters very quickly. Our lead character got hit by lightening as a teen and now can locate dead bodies knows how they died. She, with her step-brother's help, now use this "gift" to earn a living while traveling to states. They encounter lots of different people and opinions of their careers plus get themselves involved with murder and mayhem. A very fun series.

A pretty good fiction read with a decent mystery storyline. I like the main character Harper Connelly and the storyline of how she acquires her unique talent. The ending was not as good as I hoped for but I think I will read the rest of the series.

  Good but short

I really like the Sookie Stackhouse series, so I decided to give this one a try. It's not as good, but it's enjoyable reading. My biggest complaint is that all the books in this series are even shorter than the Sookie ones. They are actually shorter than many young adult novels. I'm a fast reader, so I prefer longer books. It's a good series to keep you entertained while you wait for the next Sookie book.
