Grateful Dawg (DVD, 2002)

It makes me miss good 'ole Jer' even more. The extra songs are just unreal. "God Rest ye Merry Gentlemen" is bliss producing.

I first saw this dvd at the library & have wanted it ever since.The price was right from the seller.I was very happy with the quality and after placing my order, I received it very promptly.I would buy from this seller again.

Love this, if you are a fan of Jerry Garcia or bluegrass, this is a must for your collections. Enjoy.... I did.

at one point someone says something like 'heres a chance to see jerry in a situation where he can relax and not have to be or portray The Great Garcia, King Of All Things Psychedelic ' the scenes at davids house are beautiful and happy... go to the bonus tracks and put "God Rest Ye, Merry Gentlemen" on repeat for hours at a time.

Being a Deadhead I loved this movie,but you dont have to be one to love it, it shows a side of Garcia you rarely get to see thru Grismans living room and basement/recording studio and the formation of the Grateful Dawg stlye of music.

Back when this film first came out, I appreciated it as all us Deadheads appreciate even the most banal or repetitive media related to the band. I think the viewer sees a different side of Garcia's legacy in this documentary, the intimacy of his personal friendships , his pure pleasure of playing music with his friends, the sadness of being trapped as a rock god who can't detach from the responsibilities and demands it entails, and the great impact of traditional American music on his playing and composition.

In this day and age, America seems to lose tough with it's great history and traditions. The cultural heritage we share with the world is enormous in its impact, and yet often we focus on so many foolish and destructive ideals. This film's value for non-Deadheads is every bit as signifigant as it is for all of us hopeless lunatics- a great appreciation of American traditional music and its value in a contemporary context.If you want a reason to chant "USA, USA"- this is it.....
