Standing proudly at the helm of the early-21st-century boy-band craze, Backstreet Boys tell how they want it with sweet, soulful vocal harmonies in "I Want It That Way." Before the media seized upon what it dubbed a Latin pop explosion, heartthrob Ricky Martin was "Livin' la Vida Loca" and a breakaway second career. Arguably the most infectious song of 1999, "Smooth," delivered legend Carlos Santana to a new generation of fans, with the help of Matchbox 20's Rob Thomas. Supreme R&B divas TLC jam on the quintessential anthem for the modern, no-nonsense woman in "No Scrubs." Macy Gray's soul-drenched R&B shows how the slow groove was meant to be done on "Do Something." After years as an underground artist, Kid Rock broke through with the Metallica-meets-Run-DMC track "Bawitdaba." "I Need to Know," as the flagship track to his English crossover album, made Marc Anthony an overnight smash.
