Album Notes Mulehead: Kevin Kerby, Dave Raymond (vocals, guitar); Brent Labeau (vocals, lap steel & baritone guitars, banjo, Wurlitzer piano); Geoff Curran (vocals, drums). Recorded at Poynter's Palace, Littlerock, Arkansas in 1999. THE GOSPEL ACCORDION II is the 1999 follow-up to Mulehead's debut, NEVER AGAIN, which was released one year earlier. Guitarist Kevin Kerby's songs are sturdy country rock numbers that roll out of the band with casual charm--some of them even sound like they're destined to become classics. One of the strengths of this quartet is its ability to capture the immediacy of a song on a first take. The songs contain a barrage of alluring hooks, and are well constructed with purposeful playing throughout. "One of These Days" is the kind of new song that works so well that it sounds like a fifty-year-old chestnut. With harmony vocals, occasional banjo, loud guitars, and raucous drums, this band embraces all that's earthy and believable in rock and country music. | See an error?
