I saw this movie as a preteen with my mother and it stuck with me. I love the way the movie is written and the actors are prestein. A movie that every woman can relate to and every man will laugh at. Neil Simmon is an amazing screen writter bringing you laughter, tears, and reminding us that falling in love is a risk worth taking !

No matter how many times I watch this movie it always brings tears to my eyes.
It is clearly a chick flick. Richard plays the love interest very well.
I know that I will want to watch this movie again.

Why I ordered The Goodbye Girl
Review created: 03/31/09
by:

I ordered The Goodbye girl because I recently watched it on TV and remembered how much I enjoyed it years ago when it first came out. What a good love story! Richard Dreyfus is so funny...did you know that he won an Academy Award for best actor in his role as Elliot Garfield? The movie is just so cute. It has a happy ending, too.

A wonderful movie full of this and that and everything to warm your heart up. How Marsha Mason never made it big on the screen remains a mystery to me... Definitely my cup-of-tea girl !

Escaping the Real World for 110 Minutes
Review created: 11/05/08

This movie, like many others transports us to a world that may be real in many respects, but it also shows us that our lives can change if we believe it will happen. I liked this movie when it was originally made and still like it today. This is why I purchased it.

I can't think of anything I don't like about it. I've always liked Richard Dreyfuss and Marsha Mason is unknown to me in anything else, but she shines in the role of Paula McFadden.

The stamp is great, I used it for my wedding save the date cards. It was smaller than I was expecting, but it still worked out. The seller shipped it quickly and had given an accurate description.

  70's style but timeless humor!
Review created: 05/01/08
by:

I remembered this movie from the 80's and loved it. I thought Richard Dreyfuss was hilarious and the little girl was just too precocious and cute. I got the DVD and was not disappointed. The movie was as good as I remembered and although the clothes and styles are obviously dated (this was made in 1977 I believe) the humor and issues are timeless. There are some great lines from this movie, one of my favorites being "because of a mentally arthritic director, I'm about the to play the second greatest role in the history of the English speaking theater like a double order of fresh California fruit salad!". Very funny and touching. Recommend.

  The Goodbye Girl

By far the most excellent roles for Dreyfuss and Mason ever. This movie is one for the archives; to be watched at least once a year or on a cold winter night snuggled next to your baby. Loved it. And have continued to do so from the first time I saw it upon release. It is in my DVD library and even my 32 year old son claims it is one of his faves. David Gates singing the title song makes Bread even more acceptable and appreciated. Love the 70's. Later

You can watch this movie over and over and over without ever getting tired of it. Richard Dreyfuss is absolutely priceless and the repartee between Marsha Mason and Dreyfuss that Neil Simon is so excellent at writing is fantastic.

One of the best movies ever made!!

  Wonderful Movie
Review created: 10/31/06

This is by all means a wonderful performance by both staring actors Richard Dreyfuss and Marsha Mason.
Mason is the typical woman that has been in a bad relationship... Burned numerous times and being a single mother, she is scared of falling in love. And I believe she plays the part VERY well. Her boyfriend left her and her daughter subleasing their appartment for the next three months to another actor but one of whom neiher know (Dreyfuss). This man is very understanding and kind towards the two even though Mason's character is unbelievably rude towards him. After a few weeks of living together the two become attracted to one another... Mason is fighting the feeling while Dreyfuss is embracing it... This is a marvelous tale but when you add in Richard Dreyfuss and his upbeat comic, always making you smile attitude about life, this this story become magnificent.
