Life is good until her ex-husband starts writing his own column, for a hip magazine, called "Good in Bed," in which he details the intimate truths of their relationship, including his opinion of her plus-size body. Finally determined to lose some weight, Cannie discovers instead that she's pregnant--an unforeseen complication that rocks her world even further.
Publisher's Note Humiliated to discover that her ex-boyfriend has been chronicling their former sex life in a series of articles called "Loving a Larger Woman" in a popular women's magazine, pop-culture journalist Cannie Shapiro embarks on an adventure-filled odyssey as she confronts her losses, makes peace with the past, and comes to terms with herself, her dreams, and her goals in life. Reviews Review created: 08/07/08 by: I borrowed this book from my sister. I found it touching, funny, informative, and real. I returned the book to my sister, but later she swore I did not!! I bought another copy of the book on Ebay, and gave it to her to shut her up! One of my sister's so called friends must have liked it so much, they stole it! I was in Wal-Mart and saw this title staring back at me. I read the synopsis on the back cover and knew I HAD to read it! I also knew I could find it @ half.com for a lot less. I did. I LOVED this book and have since passed it on to my closest friend. My only instruction? "Pass it on!" To be a plus size woman in a size 2 society is difficult at best and can make you suicidal at worst. I'm not EVEN kidding! To see someone tackle this subject as adeptly as Jennifer Weiner is profoundly gratifying! There is one other thing though... Whenever I read something like this, I always wonder how they will address their work if they should ever conquer their demons and become a size 2? I worry about that myself, as an author. If I write about what is important to me now, how will I feel about it if it later becomes less important to me? Jennifer Weiner has absolutely tapped a market that is HUNGRY (pun intended) for works like this! Bring it on!!! We are READY on so many levels!!! I was getting disappointed in alot of the books that I had read lately. This book really made me see that there are still good books and authors out there. I had never read anything by Jennifer Weiner. Since then, I have bid (and won) all of her books. A friend recommended her books, and I'm glad that she did! Such a wonderful book. A very quick read, I never wanted to put it down! Review ID: 10000000007453442 Was this review helpful? Report this review 1 of 1 people found this review helpful. I purchased this for a friend and read it myself. This author is off to a great start. Her characters are believable and the writer keeps your interest page after page. An excellant book. I plan to purchase all of Weiners books. Review ID: 10000000006446811 Was this review helpful? Report this review Review created: 03/04/08 by: 1 of 1 people found this review helpful. I love thins book! One of the best books I've ever read. Just so you know it is not about sex, it is a great novel that explains how a woman can feel with the different aspects of her life, and how she deals with them. Describes a broken heart, an overweight issue, a gay reltionship around her, an absent father, work problems. Well it talks about a lot of really interesting topics that are common these days. You just have to read it. I couldnt stop reading it since I opened the book. I loved it! Review ID: 10000000005967089 Was this review helpful? Report this review |
