Would have been a success at PG-13, However.

I was just taking a little time to watch a romantic comedy (which I don't do often) and got very embarrassed and disappointed with the direction this film took. This rated - R version was very completely way over the top of anything appropriate to Filmdom that I really couldn't see the point to make such a raunchy and sick film for anyone to watch. The soundtrack was excellent. The first segment of the film was way to inappropriate for anyone that I know.

I'd rather be pulling splinters out of my toes than watching this film play out. Many of the scenes were extremely funny and romantic, but after you watch the film play out, you find that this guy and his friend was really too disfunctional to believe. That's probably why Jessica Alba's character Cam began feeling like this guy could very well become a psycho killer, which would be totally unromantic in such an expensive film about two people finding true love.

If you want to watch a comedy, watch a comedy. If you want to watch a romance, watch a romance. "In my book", both items sometimes work, but this time, it made me very uncomfortable to watch this guy try and exhaust all his possibilities of success by trying to break his curse by sleeping with a total stranger who didn't even meet his requirements, which, by the way, continued to happen all throughout the film.

While Kam (Jessica Alba) seemed to be a top-notch match for him, he just didn't believe that he could make a dent in love, since he thought that he was GOD's gift to women. On the other hand, Kam was not a true believer in love, especially the kind that supposedly he stood for.

This film was good entertainment to say the least, but the total premise for the movie soon weighs heavily on anyone with any morals and only relinquishes our values to the point where we don't know between right and wrong. I'll stand on my own values this time, however, I wouldn't really promise a good feeling about this film to anyone, and can't see how anyone could possibly relate to this film with such a sleazy and raunchy slant.

Again, the comedy was funny as well as the true convictions that Dane Cook wished he had. It was the tone of the film that I wished would be better. If they could remake this film at least at a level of PG-13, it would have been much better in the long run.

I'm going to give this film a below average rating of 2/5. Sorry. It wasn't something I'd ever have watched to completion, and I probably wouldn't at all, except for the fact that I wanted to do this review. Arguably speaking, if it was the last movie made in the world, I totally wouldn't be surprised. However, spending that much time and money on a film, you would at least think that there would be a few redeeming qualities to remember about the film that can stick to your ribs, but this one doesn't do it for me. Make it a PG-13 or a G film and I'll watch it again.

IF YOU LIKE MY REVIEWS, PLEASE DON'T HESITATE TO LET ME KNOW BY VOTING. THANKS!

Stupid, cheesy, semi-funny. Alba is a pinup model train wreck of an actor and Cook's on screen charm makes up for his immature stand up comedy. I don't think I need to tell you how there's no new story about a girl, failures and lies from the guy, lame sex-related humor, some scantily clad scenes and overall easily forgettable... but just in case you thought this film would be different.

Very Funny, Very Worth It - Just Shy of Apatow Material
Review created: 01/09/08
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

'Good Luck Chuck' (UNRATED) is a hilarious raunchy romantic comedy; bred from Judd Apatow-style design. In the films attempt to mine comic gold from a high-concept premise (like Apatow's success' - '40 Year Old Virgin' & Knocked Up' & 'Superbad'), first-time Director Mark Helfrich and Screenwriter Josh Stolberg resort to usual, gross-out slapstick gags, (i.e., fart jokes, obese women, sexual pratfalls), and execute them with flair and ingenuity. Embedded in this (definately entertaining) comedy we uncover stars Dane Cook and Jessica Alba; a very very likeale team.
In the most recent bid to the big screen; following noted success with 'Employee of the Month', "Tourgasm" stand-up comedian Dane Cook plays the title character, nice-guy Dentist Charlie Logan, who's been suffering under a particularly nasty curse since childhood: 'every woman he sleeps with always finds everlasting love with the next guy she dates'.
While his sex-obsessed, foul-mouthed Plastic Surgeon buddy Stu (Dan Fogler) envies Charlie's "Gift" — women are lining up to sleep with him to find their "Mr. Right" immediately after. Charlie is tired of being nothing more than a means to an end. So when he meets the gorgeous, down-to-earth, and endearingly klutzy Cam (Alba), (a penguin specialist at 'Aqua World'), Charlie's determined to break the curse.
Hilarity ensues.
Commence the "laugh 'til you hurts"....
According to the press notes, Stolberg originally envisioned 'Good Luck Chuck' as a PG-13 film; but Helfrich persuaded him to turn it into an R-Rated Raunchfest; because of the success of Apatow's 'The 40 Year-Old Virgin' and 'The Wedding Crashers' (amongst others previously noted). And to be fair, a few of the filmmakers' racier ideas are extremely amusing, like a Kama Sutra-inspired montage sequence.
With Helfrich and Stolberg's slapdash, bottom feeder approach, the laughs are generated at a striking pace and alarmingly (borderline-offensive) outright hilarious. A primary casualty of their ruptured raunch execution is Fogler ('Balls of Fury'), playing Cook's "perv" sidekick, who does unspeakable things with a grapefruit in a bit that should turn people off all citrus fruits for a long, long time., and have you pressing pause until you somehow stop laughing and wiping away the shock.
As for Cook, his character mutates into a manic who understandably repels the object of his desperate affections. Alba fares very well also, and looks stunning throughout; while frankly generating some eye-popping comic (near slapstick - but more abrupt) clumsy humor.
Overall, 'Good Luck Chuck' (UNRATED) is a guaranteed funhouse. A hilarious cast and a promising night of great laughs. It's only (1) star fall; is maybe just the timing of the films release....because after we have luxuriously laughed ourselves into a frenzy with Judd Apatow's brilliance; this film is just barely under Apatow's radar which is all 5-Star.
DO NOT MISS THIS THOUGH !!!!
Enjoy !!

BREAKING YOUR CURSE OR GOODLUCK CHARM?
Review created: 01/11/09

Features actors; Jessica Alba & Dane Cook
Rating:R
Running time:101 Min.

Charlie Logan (Dane Cook) is a thirty-something dentist who has never fallen in love, not that he hasn't tried. In fact, he's become very popular with the ladies, because word has spread that after he sleeps with a woman, she always marries the very next guy she dates. As a result, he's come to be considered something of a good luck charm by eligible bachelorettes who hear their biological clock ticking. They all want him for just one night of passion, no strings attached, so they can then immediately settle down with Mr. Right. So, with the help of his best friend since childhood, Stu (Dan Fogler), a plastic surgeon who specializes in breast implants, Chuck has kept pretty busy providing stud service to a neverending string of frustrated females. However, everything finally changes the day he crosses paths with Cam (Jessica Alba), a clumsy cutie who works at the zoo in the penguin cage. Convinced that she's the girl of his dreams, Chuck suddenly wants to end his womanizing way to make sure that she won't sleep with him only to ditch him for someone else.
This proves to be easier said than done, as he first has to figure out how to break the curse, and thereby stop strangers from throwing themselves at him.

Hope this helps you decide. Thanks for reading! Please click YES at the bottom. :)

Why I can't give a review on this item...
Review created: 04/05/08

I decided to buy the movie because I thought it would be funny...but I wouldn't know because I've never received it from the seller! I paid $6.00 for the movie and $6.00 for shipping (which seems a little much for shipping a dvd) but I have not received the item yet...it has been almost a month!

Some parts of this movie were very funny, but I think they over wrote Dane Cook's part. Jessica Alba was funny. Worth watching once.
