On the Good Life is a Good Read
After taking a course in Ancient/Mideval Political Theory I became really interested in the writings of Cicero so I decided to do some additional reading. That is how I found this book. After reading it, I have a better idea of Cicero's thoughts on various topics, and I am satisfied. The author translated the book in an easy to read manner, and offers quite a bit (maybe even too many) footnotes to further explain things. The only thing I did not like about this books was the fact that it only included maybe one part of one of Cicero's works. While this books is great to get a quick overview of his ideas, I was left wanting to read the rest. Overall, I still feel this was a good book and I am happy I chose to read it. I would recommend it to anyone seeking a better understanding of Cicero's philosophy in a general sense. Perhaps another text would be more beneficial for a deeper understanding.
