I have been an admirer of Brian Froud's work for years. I belong to the World of Froud Website. I've been collecting his work for years. I am in the process of replacing some of it because I believe my ex-husband kept some of it. Strangly enough, when we separated, he had no interest in it. Then he "became sweet" on a girl he met on the internet. She was into Brian Froud things, so he bought the Faerie's Oracle, and a few other of his books. That's alright; I'm just glad he was finally able to appreciate Mr. Froud's work.
The pictures in the book are amazingly beautiful, as I expected. I am happy to have more information about faeries. I know that many people believe in angels; so Mr. Froud's explanation about angels being "grown-up faeries" made sense to me. There is another writer that says the same thing. There must be some some truth to this. I am also a collector of Brian Froud's art prints. The first one I bought was "The Faerie of Dark Despair". I have since been able to afford 2 more. (I try to live on disability---I have a bad back with other complications). My eldest son is an artist, and he offered to take "The Faerie of Dark Despair" and matte and frame it for me. Somehow it was misplaced between my two sons, and I hope to find it one day. It was my favorite.
I also have the Faerielands book series. It is a shame that Bantam didn't complete the work with all four books with the Froud illustrations on the sleeve and inside of the last two books by Midori Snider and Terri Windling. I bought them anyway, they were excellent of course; they are talented writers and were inspired by Brian Frouds's work.
There are many Faery artists emerging, and although they are quite talented, no one has yet to compare with Brian Froud's talent. His use of light and color
and many images within each painting draw the viewer's eye into the World of Faery.
I would recommend Good Faeries, Bad Faeries to anyone who loves quality art.
I would love to attend FaeryCon one day, but I live in the Southeast. So I will have to make do with our own Faires that we have within driving destination. I wish that I could afford an airplane ticket. But for now, I am thankful for what I have.
Mr.Froud, I wish you a long and happy life with your lovely wife Wendy, and your son, Toby.
You have brought much joy into my life with your art. Thank you.
Sincerely,
Erin M. Ivins
