More the psychological side of golf.

I bought this book because my cousin who was going into golf pro management said it changed his way of looking at golf and helped him out tremendously. I also have another friend that is a pro a local course and says he has several copies lying around the places he is the most (work, home and the bathroom). I mean even professionals go through slumps, why not try and better yourself through some mental knowledge versus trying the quick fix in the recent golf magazine.

After reading it, I really started to focus on certain parts of my swing. For me, it helped me think about 2 things: hip rotation (for getting back to square) and follow through. When I am trying to work the ball, I just manipulate the rotation of my hips and the follow through.

This book truly helped me lower my 9 hole scoring average from about 41/42 to 38/39. Which might not sound like much, but I know that I like seeing 30 somethings on a card versus something in the 40s.

  Great Book

While playing Golf with a Club Professional I mentioned that I had lost my Competative desire to win and was having trouble getting back in that frame of mind. He suggested the book I purchased and was correct in his selection. It gives one the desire to want that edge to compete with better players and do your best to win. It has helped my mental attitude and helps in your general everyday desire to do ones best. GREAT BOOK! I can not find anything about the book that is negative.

Rotella "Golf is Not a Game of Perfect"
Review created: 04/03/09
by:

I was looking for the Rotella golf book. The price was right -- inexpensive and the shipping low/reasonable. So I ordered it.

The book was in better than average condition and deliver was very promptly.

Nice, quick ebay transaction.

As far as the book content was, I was somewhat disappointed. Having not read anything by Rotella and hearing all this praise of the content, I was expecting more.

The book had a repetitious set of examples, with no clear cut methodology of applying his mantra. Obviously, one needs to ignore the bad things that happen and believe in your skills/self. But what builds that confidence? For someone that does not easily forget what just happened, it is not at all clear what practical actions one should take. Afterall that last bad shot most likely happened in the last 15 minutes. I personally do not dwell on my shots, but I tend to recall that last bad shot. To suggest, like the basketball player after numerous misses, one should think "I am due for a basket" sounds arogant or egotistical or foolhardy.

But then again, this is sports psychology, not quantum mechanism. Warm and fuzzy is the norm.

  Good golf book

This book was recommended to me by a golf-loving client. I bought it as a gift for a relative new to golfing. (So I haven't read it myself). My relative loved it, and said many of the lessons in the book are applicable to life in general, not just golf. He found it very inspirational and enjoyed reading it.

A friend loaned me his copy -- I enjoyed it so much I had to buy it. Gives excellent insight to the "mind game" we play on ourselves when we play golf.

Needed. Bought. When I want something I go to ebay and see what you have to offer. If it's there, priced right, I feel comfortable in buying. I only got stuckk one time with a purchase. And it was a downloadable program and I probably could not figure out the proper technique.

This is the book for all golfers. It puts your mind in play before your swing is in motion. Great book for low and high handicap golfers. I plan to give a copy to all my golf buddies.

Good read, although I don't golf, I read it to help improve my sporting clays game. Within the first three chapters a light bulb came on and I was able to identify the mistakes in my own game. I recommend this book for those who want to improve. It is a good "crossover" that could relate to many sports or activities.
