Synopsis
Some might recall that Barack Obama rose to prominence on the strength of two bestselling books, and now his possible 2012 rival for the White House is trying to follow suit. In this provocative memoir, Sarah Palin details her unique Alaskan upbringing, relives her rapid ascension to the national spotlight, and provides more of the candid, homespun wisdom for which she is best known. GOING ROGUE will be required reading for supporters of both political parties, as Republicans look for answers and Democrats look for ammunition.

Publisher's Note
One year ago, Sarah Palin burst onto the national political stage like a comet. Yet even now, few Americans know who this remarkable woman really is. On September 2, 2008 Alaska Governor and vice presidential nominee Sarah Palin delivered a speech at the Republican National Convention that electrified the nation and instantly made her one of the most recognizable women in the world. As chief executive of America's largest state, she had built a record as a reformer who cast aside politics-as-usual and pushed through changes other politicians only talked about: Energy independence. Ethics reform. And the biggest private sector infrastructure project in U.S. history. And while revitalizing public school funding and ensuring the state met its responsibilities to seniors and Alaska Native populations, Palin also beat the political "good ol' boys club" at their own game and brought Big Oil to heel. Like her GOP running mate, John McCain, Palin wasn't a packaged and over-produced candidate. She was a Main Street American woman: a working mom, wife of a blue-collar union man, and mother of five children, the eldest of whom is serving his country in Iraq and the youngest, an infant with special needs. Palin's hometown story touched a populist nerve, rallying hundreds of thousands of ordinary Americans to the GOP ticket. But as the campaign unfolded, Palin became a lightning rod for both praise and criticism. Supporters called her "refreshing" and "honest," a kitchen-table public servant they felt would fight for their interests. Opponents derided her as a wide-eyed Pollyanna unprepared for national leadership. But none of them knew the real Sarah Palin. In this eagerly anticipated memoir, Palin paints an intimate portrait of growing up in the wilds of Alaska; meeting her lifelong love; her decision to enter politics; the importance of faith and family; and the unique joys and trials of life as a high-profile working mother. She also opens up for the first time about the 2008 presidential race, providing a rare, mom's-eye view of high-stakes national politics--from patriots dedicated to "Country First" to slick politicos bent on winning at any cost. GOING ROGUE traces one ordinary citizen's extraordinary journey and imparts Palin's vision of a way forward for America and her unfailing hope in the greatest nation on earth.

Industry Reviews
"GOING ROGUE is more a personal memoir than a political one....Mrs. Palin emerges as a new style of feminist: a politician who took on the Ole Boy network and won; a wife with a supportive husband whose career takes second place to hers; and a mother who, unlike working women of an earlier age, isn't shy about showcasing her family responsibilities....This is not the prejudiced, dim-witted ideologue of the popular liberal imagination."
(11/16/2009)

"GOING ROGUE...is part cagey spin, part earnest autobiography, part payback hit job. And its most compelling sections deal not with politics but with Ms. Palin's life in Alaska and her family....The self-portrait created in these pages recalls the early profiles of Ms. Palin that appeared just after her debut on the national stage: a self-reliant frontierswoman who knows how to field dress a moose; a feisty gal with lots of moxie and pep; a former beauty queen with a George W. Bush-like aptitude for mangling the English language."
(11/16/2009)

"[O]ne comes away from this book impressed by her political acumen, emotional intelligence, and her knowledge of energy issues. Her innate ability to connect with people and lack of pretension are reminiscent of the skill set that Ronald Reagan possessed....[But] Palin has a way to go before she is likely to be perceived as having that kind of stature. It is not at all clear how GOING ROGUE will help her get there."

This is the first political biography that I have ever read that I actually ENJOYED. Sarah Palin talks a little about her childhood, and teenage years, but focuses more on the later years. What is so amazing is how she has worked all of her life. The reason it took her 5 years to finish college is
that she paid her way. There were times when she had to wait out a semester so she could work to save money for another semester. That is so much like my family. I am wanting to go to college, but I am not expecting someone ELSE to pay my bill. If I am going to go through college, I am going to be paying for my education! I just got my book today, and already I have read to page 104. I can't wait to finish this book! Sarah Palin is a great example of the AVERAGE American. Tired of BIG government, corruption, etc. However, she has gone above and beyond what the average American does. She DOES SOMETHING ABOUT IT! She
is not afraid to stand for what is right. I have been interested in politics since 2004. However, my interest had died off between 2005-2007.
But when 2008 came around with McCain's pick of SARAH PALIN, I got excited once again! Sarah Palin has inspired me, and I know she has inspired many Americans.
Sarah Palin stands FOR the PEOPLE. She doesn't have her hand in our wallets like so many crooks in politics. She is giving BACK to our country.
I hope Sarah Palin runs in 2012. If she does, she will have me support and vote.
Oh, and just a side note. All those politicians out there that have forgotten the ones who put them in, and are more focused on what they can take from us and how they can control us: Guess what? Come 2010, they are going OUT the door! It's time for politicians like Sarah Palin. God Bless Sarah Palin!
By the way - Please excuse me if the words are broken up. My computer was giving me trouble!

Here's an update. I have finished Sarah Palin's book. I actually finished it several weeks ago, but am just now getting to update the review. Every single page I read, I understood and liked Sarah Palin more. I do not see why people don't like her, other than the fact that she speaks TRUTH, and there are some people don't want to hear the truth. For instance, the clothes during the campaign. She did not ask to have those purchased for her and was upset to see the prices on the different clothing items. Her family kept asking people about the clothes and they were told that everything was taken care of. Sarah Palin said she is more than happy with off brand clothes from discounted places. In fact, she was upset that she could not wear HER clothes! So many people are just buying into what the biased media tells us. Also, another fascinating thing was, when she became Governor of Alaska, she got rid of the personal chef in the Governor's mansion to SAVE taxpayers' dollars. What other politician do you know that has done that? If you don't understand Sarah Palin, READ THIS BOOK! If you don't want to buy it, check it out from the library, but I DO recommend buying it! If you don't know anything about Sarah Palin, DON'T bash her! Read her life story!

Profoundly excellent reading. Every American should get a copy and read it. Details are sharp and leaves you thinking. Contents is in right order of events and expresses a tone that delivers to the reader a need to read on. Events as expressed by the author promotes in the reader to think beyond the title and the contents. The scope through out the literature entertains as well as drives the reader to want to respond to its contents. It leaves you with a desire to read it again.
