Godzilla Raids Again (DVD, 2007)

Godzilla Raids Again... a key piece in any G-fan's collection. Not only does it consist of Godzilla's first kaiju battle, but also Anguirus' first appearance as well.
Classic Media has re-released a rare film, both English dub & Japanese original on one disc. Includes the art of Suit Acting special feature, though it mostly consists of info on the actors IN the suits, it's still quite interesting. If you're a G-fan, you'll LUV it. If by chance you're new, GRA doesn't really have a BIG kaiju fight, so if ya want that, Godzilla Final Wars is for you. GRA is in black & white and this is, to the best of my knowledge, the ONLY official dvd release for R1, before there was only the VHS copy. Plus you get the uncut japanese version AND the original English dub. Good buy indeed.

The "bootleg" version of this movie which I had bought many years on e'bay, was so badly done that the night scenes were sooo dark you could barely see what was going on! So this was a very timly purchase indeed.

I major disappointment after the excellent Gojira. This film was rushed, cheap, and had none of the emotional depth or sense of urgency delivered by the original, and didn't even supply the campy fun of its successors.

This was the follow up Godzilla movie to "Goira"(1954),which was renamed "Godzilla King of the Monsters" in the USA,and in which scenes with Raymond Burr were inserted.

This movie was originally called "Gigantis the Fire Monster" due to a mix up with the copyrights of the original film,but was quickly retitled "Godzilla Raids again" when this was sorted.

This isn't by any stretch of the imagination as good as the first Godzilla,and the Japanese actors seem even more stupid than normal.Needless to say Godzilla lives to fight another day.

The DVD is enhanced by an audio commentary,and both the American,and original Japanese versions and the quality of the film,like the majority of Black & White films,is extremely good.

Finally,if you are a Godzilla fan and by some chance you haven,t got this in your collection you will probably want it,but otherwise stick to the original and selected titles of films made in the 80's,90's and into the year 2000.

The DVD quality was very good and I enjoyed it. I will be looking for other products by this company.

During my childhood I liked a movie called "Gigantis the Fire Monster" but it is not shown any more. I found a DVD which not only has the movie but a great deal of background information. The movie is a grade B movie, but the audio commentary includes a wealth of information about this movie, such as why it was released in the United States as "Gigantis the Fire Monster" when it should have been "Godzilla Raids Again." It also contains the Japanese version (whith English subtitles) and a short section about the guys who wore the Godzilla suits. A must for any Godzilla fanatic!

This re-issue of the Godzilla's classic is a gem for whom anybody that is a collector of Japanese sci-fi.Anybody who wants a nostalgic film then this is it.When i was young boy i always watched these films on Saturdays and when H.B.O.used to have back to back marathons of nothing,but Godzilla movies.Of,coarse with any old black and white film there will be some editing issues.That doesn't discount the movie.What i really liked about this re-issue was the behind the scenes commentary about the movie which was really good.Also,the extras.I hope someday Toho re-releases the Mirrorman Trilogy.If you don't like nostalgia then I recommend the modern version of the Godzilla movies which were made in the 1990's on up.
