3 Great Godzilla Flicks

If you're a big fan of watching giant monsters battle it out and wreak havoc on Tokyo in the process, then this is a great set to pick up. A few thoughts on each film:
Son of Godzilla: I'm one of the very few kaiju nerds out there who actually loves Minya (the titular monster), so this, to me, is a classic. This was definitely one of my faves growing up, catching it on Saturday afternoon in the glory days of UHF. There's a lot of action in this one, including a memorable face-off between Godzilla and a gang of giant praying mantises. And Minya blowing rings of smoke instead of a concentrated beam of radiation? Adorable. And Godzilla and Minya take on a giant spider in the finale. What's not to love?
Godzilla vs. Mechagodzilla: Dinosaurs and giant robots. What could be cooler? How about a giant robot dinosaur? Genius. Absolute genius. This is the first meeting between Godzilla and his villainous mechanical counterpart. So that, right there, is reason enough to recommend it. But wait. There's more. Anguirus (the spikey-backed, ankylosaur-like monster who was the Big G's first opponent, then later became an ally) is here, too! And some big freaky-looking dog-eared creature called King Seesar! If you're a fan of the genre, there's a lot to appreciate here.
Godzilla: Tokyo SOS- This is a recent Godzilla film, so you may not have seen this one yet. But don't worry, it's still guys in monster suits, with very little CGI involved (Phew! CGI is the devil). This is a rarity in the G series in that it actually references previous films and events that took place in said films have some bearing on what happens here. First off, it's a direct sequel to the film that preceded it, "Godzilla Against Mechagodzilla" (no, not "Vs.", "Against". It was released one year before this one, not in the 70's, like "Vs." was). And it has ties to the 1961 classic "Mothra". So yes, Mecha and Mothra are both in this one, and it adds up to a pretty impressive 3 way battle at the end. A worthy entry to a terrific series!
