What can you say about this one???

I am introducing my youngest son to Godzilla movies.

So as usual Godzilla strikes Japan once again!

But this time a team of Japanese scientists use DNA from the first Godzilla creature in order to create a hyper-intelligent robot version of the Godzilla monster.

Why??? They want the robot version to destroy its' destructive organic counterpart!!!

OK... well you gotta be a Godzilla fan (fanatic?) to enjoy some of these movies! But you know... that's why we watch them!!

Let me first say that only Godzilla FANS should review Godzilla movies. Let's face it, someone who is an outside to this cult will clearly dub it as stupid, poorly executed and cheesy - Godzilla fans know this and that's part of the fun. The Godzilla 2000 series, which this movie is from, reinvented Godzilla. He was no longer the cheesy super hero who saved Japan from aliens or monsters, but the destructive powerhouse he originally was. This movie was alright, but as a long time Godzilla fan, I can't look at this version of Mechagodzilla and enjoy it, because the original was an evil, alien controlled robot. The movie is still enjoyable for those who like Godzilla and collect the movies. Although, after watching it several times, I feel like there's a slightl loop hole in the story...still a decent watch...IF you're a Godzilla fan. If you're not, just stay away, rather than tell us how fake looking and cheesy it is. The myth of Godzilla remains a strong thread in sci-fi/monster culture. While this movie isn't the best in the entire Godzilla cinema series, it's still a must see for Godzilla fans - especially those who were fans of the old movies - you'll enjoy witnessing the transitions and differences.

The special effects in this movie are great. Toho has come along way in their production of Godzilla movies.

I have loved Godzilla movies ever since I was a kid. I don't care if they are the corny ones from the 60's and 70's, or what time period. I don't care if they are Japanese with only English subtitles. I am now collecting them, and am replacing my vhs with dvd. I've got a few more to go.

This is a decent godzilla movie. It's not as good as the old Godzilla vs. Mechagodzilla from 1974, but this movie is still pretty good. It's one of the newer ones, which means get ready for a serious story, a dark atmosphere, and a plot that involves the humans more than in the older movies.

Godzilla is back and Japan has no defense until someone suggests building a robot using the bones of the first godzilla, as well as some spinal cells as part of its main computer. This Mechagodzilla (named "Kiryu") is clearly a match for Godzilla, that is until something goes wrong. Let's just say that it was probably not a good idea using old Godzilla cells in its computer. ;)

There's a few good fight scenes, and lots of great special effects, but I didn't really like the parts focusing on the humans very much. There's also a "Making of..." special feature that I had fun watching. I'd say it's a good deal.

Love it becaues its godzilla. Quality isnt quite up to US standards but its pretty good for a "B" monster movie. It helps complete my collection. Decent storyline and pretty cool monster fight scenes. Way better than some of the past Godzilla movies but not as good as Final Wars and a couple others. If you like Godzilla this one is a pretty good addition, if youre not into godzilla then you probably wont like any of them.

a pretty good update to aclassic godzilla foe
Review created: 11/05/08

Overall I would say this was a pretty good movie, and it was nice to see a new version of Mechagodzilla after the older 90's model, which wasn't nearly as cool as the original. The story here is good and it ties itself in with the original fairly well. i also like movie where godzilla is more of the bad guy or the anti-hero any way because he always seems cooler in those films. The only possible downside here is that the movie focuses more on the humans and Mechagodzilla rather than on Godzilla himself but its not really a big problem.

  MONSTER AGAINST MACHINE!
Review created: 04/30/08

Godzilla against Mechagodzilla is the first film in the most recent series of Toho's franchise. Personally, I rank this one high on my list of favourite Godzilla movies. The monsters look better than ever as they fight in Tokyo destroying everything in sight and the special effects are incredible. With a great story, good characters, awesome monsters fights and action from start to finish, Godzilla against Mechagodzilla gives me that same good feeling I had as a kid watching the older Godzillas. If you love monster movies, I'm sure you will enjoy this one, and if you're a Godzilla fan like myself, you simply must have it in your collection.
