The Gods Must Be Crazy (DVD, 2004)

This movie is one of a kind, and extremely funny. It looks at the world and the white Europeans of Africa through a Bushman's eyes. There is a scene at the beginning where the workday of the people working in a big office in a big city are shown and the narrator describes their actions from the point of view of someone who's actually describing what's REALLY going on,not the way the people perceive themselves. The "bad guys" turn out to be comically clumsy and stupid, and there are hilarious little touches all through the movie, with a decidedly British sense of humor. There are some interesting plot twists, and it all ends well. Clean humor, a glimpse into the simple but contented lives of the Bushmen and its sharp contrast with the "modern" lives of the other characters, simply and well-told and photographed. If you like British humor, you'll LOVE this!

This little movie begins when a passing old-time airplane throws an empty coke bottle out the window of his plane. The bottle lands in the midst of a primitive African village. The villagers feel it is gift from the Gods and soon they cannot live without it. When ownership of the bottle begins to cause fighting they send one of their people to return it to the Gods. So ensues a hilarious tale full of sweet and slapstick humor and the touching attempts to return a coke bottle that no one values or wants. I promise you will laugh out loud many times.

I saw this movie about 1984, and it was one of the funniest movies I have ever seen. I saw it again about 1992, and it had been edited differently and was not very funny. It was clearly the same movie, but the re-edit had lost most of the laughs. I had never realized how important editing can be. I bought this movie on DVD in 2008 hoping it was the funny version, but it is not. This version is 109 minutes long and has about ten good laughs. Oh, well. I lose again. How can I find that funny version? Why is this unfunny version on the market?

I think this is one of the funniest movies of all time. It makes me smile just to think about it! Parts of it are slapstick, but thats OK. When a Land Rover (known as The Antichrist) winched itself up a tree and was dangling from it's own cable, I almost fell off my chair. We bought the DVD as a Christmas present for friends with a similarly warped sense of humor.

This is one of the most hilarious movies of all time! Genius!

All the characters are unforgettable, a combination of slapstick and witty dialogue. Highly recommended!

A great movie if you enjoy a movie that shows the basics of differing societies. Has great humor, and is a movie that most of the family can enjoy, maybe a bit violent in a couple scenes with gun shooting, but otherwise a truly great movie!
