Awesome Adventure Game - God of War

One of the best adventure/action game in 2005. Great storyline and awesome and impressive cutscene and level graphics. This game took me by surprise. I haven't had this much fun with an adventure game in a while. Play it in easy mode, and you'll be able to finish game with very little problems, but the puzzles are still quite fun and challenging. Any harder mode, and you've got to really know your video gaming. Combo moves, puzzles, AWESOME BOSSES and you've got one of the best games this year.

Two words: simply amazing! The cutscenes and gameplay graphics are supurb, and the storyline sucks you in before the game even STARTS! Battling enemies gives you plenty of customization as YOU decide how you want to defeat them. You can grab an enemy, then whichever button you push next is the way you finish him off. Will you rip a demon in half, or kick it to the ground and stab it to death! It's definitely a "M" rating title, but I haven't played a game like this in quite some time. On some of the bigger enemies, once you've worn it down enough a command will appear above it's head, press this to initiate "mini-game" mode where you must follow the button combinations on the screen quickly and accurately to finish them off, or else get thrown back to the ground and battle some more! This game is engineered with button mashers out of thought! If you just mash the buttons in this game, the mass of enemies will eventually run you down.
The only minor con I have for this game is the inability to manually change the camera angles or look around. Whatever angle or view they give you is what you have to deal with, BUT sometimes that's part of the puzzle you're trying to solve. Showing too much of the room might give away the solution to the puzzle. So, in a way it's not that bad.
Save/load times are quick for the amount of data that needs to be saved/loaded. There are plenty of opportunities to save your game, and also includes "built-in" checkpoints you are unaware of in case you die to respawn on. You only get one life, so the checkpoints definitely come in handy as you have unlimited restarts from them.
As you progress through the game and collect red "orbs" you can choose which weapons/magic you want to upgrade to the next level. This was the best feature of the game because it allows you to enhance weapons you use the most, or favorites at that. The environments are almost completely playable, and you even get "orbs" for destroying random items! In a way, it entices you to check for secrets and hidden items! As you upgrade your weapons/magics, new attacks are unlocked and you attacks get stronger of course. Simply incredible!
This title is $19.99 now, as it is a Greatest Hits title, and IS the best game I've played in quite some time. They also just announced God Of War 2 coming out sometime in 2007...so make sure you pick this up and finish it by then!! :)

The commercials for this game won me over.. I took a chance and bought it and Im glad I did. This game puts PS2 on the map (not that it's not already). NOt only is it easy to play but it makes you want to play more.. The storyline is done so well that you have to keep playing because you cant wait to hear more about the story. Not only are the controls easy but the graphics are amazing.. Usually with new games I get to a point where im stuck and cant get past so I end up giving up.. Not with this game.. I managed to figure out all the puzzles and get thru it. If you own a PS2 then you MUST own this game.

Like anyone else that has played this game, I was pleasantly surprised. I received the demo version of this game, and ended up playing it for almost 2 hours straight. The next day, I had to go to the store and buy the game (exactly what they wanted to happen).
This was one of the best games of the year, if not the best. Anybody would love playing this game, but the best part about it is the replay value. As you increase the difficulty, it becomes much more challenging but stays interesting enough for the player to keep going.
I would definitely recommend this game to everyone, and I can't wait until the next one is released.

This game is awesome. When it first came out, I passed on it. One week when there was nothing out and this game was on the $17.99 shelf, I bought it. After I played it, I paid a neighbor kid to kick me in the groin for not buying it sooner. You start out this game as a mortal and eventually rise up and defeat a god. You then take his place as the god of war. During your rise to god, you fight a lot and solve a lot of puzzles. The game is about fighting, but the puzzles are what make it fun. You have to figure out how to open doors or find secret chests of treasure. Okay, I'm done. Just go buy the FRIGGIN' Game!!! You don't want to be in the same situation I was in with the neighbor kid.

This game has it all a Great story line, Great Game Play, and Great Graphics. This is in my ranking Number 5 in the top Ten of PS2 games. This is well worth the money and will be a Classic Gamers will remember for a Long time to come. I find nothing wrong with this game in any area. This is a definite High replay value.

‘God of War’ pretty much came out of nowhere to become one of the best PS2 titles. Combining a great score, sensational graphics as well as intuitive play control means a hit for the PS2.
Two things really stand out to me: 1. the boss fights are innovative and the best since the original Metroid Prime came out on Gamecube and 2. anyone can pick this game up and play it. With multiple difficulty factors as well as a gripping storyline, it’s easy to become hooked and spend hours guiding your character through ancient Greece in search of vengeance.
As stated before, play control is second to none, I can’t stress how easy it is for a novice to pick up on the game. The puzzles are not easy as well; don’t be surprised if you’re searching for cheat codes or hints once you hit the middle of the game.
I’d love to see a sequel in the works though it’s anyone’s guess if that will happen or not. One thing is for sure though: this is a game that you need to play if you haven’t already.

Easily the best game of 2005: God of War. I seen them preview the game on Attack of the Show before it came out and was instantly impressed with the graphics and the storyline they presented. So, on the day of the release I had to buy it, not something I normally do without renting first. The in-game graphics did not let me down. Visually stunning graphics take you to Ancient Greece where you go from the sea to the mountains and then to the dessert.
As with most Action/Adventure games it does have cut scenes but these are the best placed and not only does it help the story out but they are not extremely long as I have seen before, just long enough to take a quick break from the action.
The fighting system is needless to say the best I have seen. With the combos that you can do and the hand-to-hand action is good as well. Enemies progressively get harder and the bosses are fun and hard to figure out as well. The puzzles keep the game interesting although once you figure them out they do not change in the harder levels which is a little dissappointing but overall very fun to do over again.
If you dont get any game this year for the PS2 please at least let yourself rent this game. You will not be dissapointed!

+ Deep story with gorgeous cutscenes & a huge mythology.
+ Variety of levels that feel like they have been ripped from the pages of history.
+ Brutal main character who you will never forget.
+ Huge boss battles & a real sense of satisfaction in giving a beating to your enemies.
Cons
- Novices should be able to handle the easiest mode but any other mode is for the hardcore gamers only.

My son gave me this game for my 50+ birthday. Usually, I play stealth type genre but he knew this could be a new favorite for me. It took me 3 weeks but I beat the game on easy mode. The game is set in ancient mystical Greece and the main character has to kill Ares (pronounced Aries) "The God of War" against seemingly insurmountable odds. In his journeys he encounters mythical monsters and other "gods" that lend him power as he proves himself. Simple puzzles, very good story line, gothic music, beautiful landscapes, lots of blood and gore and a very fast pace makes this game enormously playable. I am now playing it again. butin Spartan Mode which is very hard but gratifying when I pass a new level. Gameplay, scenes and music are very similar to Devil may Cry, another great game.

Wow, what amazing enemies. Great gameplay. So much to like about this game. I played several levels and enjoyed it. I wonder why the game designers felt it necessary to include nudity? There were a couple of scenes of it that I thought were completely unnecessary. I wasn't sure what might be coming next, so I sold the game before finishing it. Parents be aware...by the way, it's really violent too.....

"God of War" is a video game that combines all the action, strategy, and graphics that the Playstation 2 console could handle. As Kratos (the main character) you will go on a fantastic journey through several ancient Greek myths. The storyline is excellent. All-in-all I would say that "God of War" is one of the best video games I have ever played.

God of War 1 is simply the greatest among all the other GOD OF WAR franchise.
Great story line to keep the gamer rooted to find out more about the story and the exciting game play also boosts its name.
Great game to have and play if people are interested in those kinda games were there is plenty of action going on and the many nice movies that are shown which are the mini movies. For those who are also interested in those medieval times period kinda stuff also can start to play this games as it also sometimes tell you about greek mythology kinda stuff.

God of war is a game that you just cant put down, it will always keep you interested. If you love blood and gore, buy this game, the easy mode well..its easy...but if you like a challange, and i mean a challange, try this game on God Mode, it becomes insanly hard, to this day, i can't beat it on god mode.

i love the graphics for this game it looks like an xbox game. the gameplay is great and flows well.
i would say this is the best game of the 3 current consoles but i would have to say that resident eveil 4 is better. but you need to own this game and you should probably pick up the guide becuz this game does get quite challenging.

I got this game initially as a demo from Sony. Normally I don't like demos because they have a tendency to end before you get a chance to really test the game out. However, the demo for this game was long enough to get me hooked and wanting to try the full game. It's easy to play and the moves are fairly easy to master even for someone like me. The graphics are brilliant and whilst it may be easy to master it is still difficult enough to be challenging and keep your attention.

I got hooked on God of War games when I got Chains of Olympus with my PSP. The original game is just as cool. Great Graphics and great mythology driven story make for an awesome gaming experience. Rock on!
