After Wholesale Meats and Fish failed to fulfill the potential of their debut, Letters to Cleo took two years off, switched drummers, and returned in 1997 with Go!. While the group still shows some signs of growing pains, it's a more successful and assured record than its predecessor, demonstrating that the group still can knock out a big, catchy power pop hook on occasion. It's a tougher record than Wholesale Meats and Fish, and the best moments on the album rival the best on Aurora Gory Alice. The main problem with Go! is that Letters to Cleo can't keep up their momentum over the course of the record. Still, the good points of the record illustrate that the group is improving, and that alone makes Go! a successful comeback. ~ Stephen Thomas Erlewine
