This book by P.D. Eastman uses great color illustrations and simple vocabulary. My 2 1/2 year old likes me to read it to him every night. This is the first book I could "read" at the age of 3 and my son is learning by rote as well. It has a small vocabulary with lots of repeated words which is what young children need. It even rivals Dr. Suess.
