Glorious Patchwork by Kaffe Fassett, Liza Prior Lucy (1997, Hardcover)

I saw it in the library, liked it, bought it on eBay. It has fabulous quilts with really good directions given for more than one variation of the quilt. Kaffe Fassetts colors are wonderful, though not always bright like you'd think. It was interesting to read about his beginning in the quilt realm and about his work with other mediums such as needlepoint, water color, etc. I treasure this book and will get a lot of use out of it.

I've always been a fan of Kaffe Fassett's quilt designs and Liza Prior Lucy's implementation of them because of their liveliness and energy. But I definitely think you should determine if you're a fan before investing in any of their quilting books. Research Fassett's fabric designs and his and Lucy's quilt designs online to determine if their vibrantly unique style matches your own. It's not fair to criticize something just because you don't like it. Fassett is one of the best textile artists/designers of the last 50 years and Lucy is a master quilter.

More than the multitude of quilting projects with excellent instructions in this book, the reader is offered motivation and inspiration. Fassett's fascination with color and its place in history is briefly covered here along with exquisite color photographs.

Fassett's quilts can be completed by quilters with beginning level skills. If color theory intimidates you, don't worry, the designs are easy to replicate using Fassett's color choices (although you're always encouraged to follow your own muse).

As with all of Kaffe Fassett writings, This book belongs in every quilters library. It not only challenges you but gives step by step directions.

KAFFE FASSETT has a wonderful reputation for being a COLORIST. Quilters are always looking for ideas and new techniques to ply their craft and his books supply that need. They are infused with glorious photography of fabric creations in sumptuous settings. Each page more jaw-droppingly gorgeous than the last.

"GLORIOUS PATCHWORK" was written in conjunction with Liza Prior Lucy in 1997 and it is full of patterns and templates and most importantly, INSPIRATION. His books will never be out-of-date. Actually, his books increase in value like a fine wine.

Kaffe Fassett is a Master with fabric. Florals are celebrated like never before. Stripes dance across a surface and the rhythm is strongly felt. Solid colors give stability and cohesiveness. His patterns are deceptively easy to construct. Basically simple shapes are used and end up looking geometrically complex. Every quilt shown, begs to be made.

This is a must have book as are all of his books. Sure to be a CLASSIC.

Book is very good with Kaffe Fasset information on quilting. I just love it.
