Glinda by L. Frank Baum
Review created: 06/27/07(updated 06/27/07)

This was sadly the final chapter in the world of OZ. L. Frank Baum was very sick while writing this last book and feared he might not live to see it finished. He did, but not to see it published. If you grew up with the OZ series then you will be familiar with the characters othe than just Dorothy, the Scarecrow, Cowardly lion and Tin man. There are a host of other characters which were not included in the film and perhaps the most popular The Wonderful Wizard of OZ book. There is Pumpkinhead, Ozma , the patchwork girl and the screwheads.
This book ties up all the loose ends of Oz that had been left hanging in other books. Glinda who by now is the most powerful force in Oz, seals it off from the outside world, so no others can ever visit it again. Ozma becomes the ruler and even Dorothy is in this final story, sadly without her dog Toto or her kitten and hen. The book is written as if Baum is saying a final farewell to Oz and the world. If you have read his other books, than this one is well worth reading.
