Interesting concept. My daughter had to buy it for school reading otherwise I probably would never have purchased the book. She said it was one of the better books that she had to read for school this year.

  Great Book

It is amazing that O.T. Nelson only wrote this book as a way to make money for his painting business. I have loved this book since I was a young boy and every time I read it I catch something I missed the times before. Great book with a good message of loyalty, leadership, and survival. A must-read!

  Good but flawed.

I love the premise of the book, but I think it's unrealistic that these childern would've pulled themselves up by the boot straps in just one week of loosing not only their families, but their community as well. A month, yeah, but in only 7 days after all the adults dying, these kids would be basket cases first. Then, those who didn't starve to death first would rise up and begin organizing others.
I'm a bit partial to the book because I'm from Glen Ellyn and always had fantasies of living as a queen in Glenbard West. I don't know much about the author, but the last time I saw Todd he'd joined a born again christian church and wasn't easy to relate to. The family is still good people and I still like the book, it just needs major tweeking.

The reason I bought this book, is, I read it as a teenager, and I am now homeschooling my teenager, and I wanted him to know the story, too. So I went to the library at the beginning of the school year, and we were reading the book, and it was misplaced! We were so upset, because we only had 2 chapters to go! Well, I had to pay for the book! About 2 months ago, I thought...hey, I can see if its on sale, on Ebay!...and sure enough, it was! So for our last 2 days of school, we are going to finish it. He was suprised when I brought it out to read...(I hid it til' the end of the school year)
