I have 3 classics. I collect guitars. Ive played Over a 100,000 guitars in 30 years. Classics are my favorite. Straight laced Gibson product. I just bought a October Gibson of the month Explorer and find my self playing my 93 classic more still. Tom @ guitarsnstuff

Always Wanted A Goldtop Les Paul

I always wanted a Gibson Goldtop Les Paul and now I have one. Why buy this one? Because I was looking at the picture of it and I got that "zing". The price was just a little bit less than I would pay at the local guitar store. With no taxes and delivered to my doorstep, it was time! Prior to this, I would never purchase a Les Paul because the weight of it would kill my neck and back. This one is a 2008 and it's chambered... considerably less weight. Nice pickups, the neck shape is offset to help with hand fatigue, locking jack, straplocks, grover locking tuners etc, etc.
The verdict is still out on the true value and quality of this musical intstrument because in my humble opinion it takes a bit of breaking in on a brand new instument before it's true character is revealed. One of the worries of purchasing something like a guitar online no doubt. Still... everytime I open the case to play "Goldie" I get a zing because she is beautiful. She plays great. She is a pleasure to have in my hands. My desire is that she ages gracefully... maybe even becoming a collectable. Of course that would be after years of playing her, making her real like the skin horse.

I love everything about this guitar! Completely astounded by the craftsmanship. This guitar is a beauty to look at and needless to say it plays great. The tone is incredible and the sustain is incredible. If you want a sweet guitar without the insane price tag the "Classic" is the way to go.

Light,Fast & looks great. If you can flat out play or not & you like to rock set it up & go. Please note this is a production quitar not a custom. It's in the ears & feel of the beholder.

  Epiphone Les Paul Classic
Review created: 06/30/09

This was a 2000 Korean made model. The fit and finish were very good. It has a beautiful one piece flamed mapel top on a solid mahogany body. A nice rosewood set neck with trapeziod inlays and good playability. It has Grover tuners which keep the guitar in tune very well. I can't review the electronics because the original pickups had been replaced with EMG active 81/85 models. These sounded very good, but I wanted a more vintage Gibson style and sound in the neck and a little higher output from the bridge so I replaced all of the electronics with US made parts(CTS 500k pots, Switchcraft 3 way switch and output jack) and put a Dimarzio Norton in the bridge and a Seymour Duncan 59 in the neck. You can get pretty close to the sound and playability of a Gibson with these Epiphone Les Pauls for about 1/4 the price.
I actually bought this guitar to re-sell, but now I'm strongly considering keeping it.

It’s a beauty! The seller was prompt to ship within a reasonable amount of time. Because I still have no idea how to play it, it has become a beauitful wall hanging.
