Gia (DVD, 2004, Unrated Version)

I bought this film not knowing exactly what I was going to see when I got it. Young children definitely should not be around to see this one. It's definitely for mature audiences, but I pretty much knew that when I bought this movie. That aside, it's definitely a great story and Angelina Jolie gives one of her best performances as Gia Carangi, one of America's first supermodels.

Gia grew up in Philadelphia and at the age of 17, she gets a free ride to New York City to see a modeling agent. She then picks up jobs here and there modeling and then breaks through to become a supermodel, posing for the cover of Cosmopolitan, Vogue, and other fashion magazines. She has the look that all fashion execs want, and her services become a high demand. Along the way, Gia has many sexual encounters, mainly with other women. She sort of settles down with one, but drugs get in the way. Drugs keep her from keeping a steady relationship with her girlfriend, and they also threaten to ruin her modeling career. She can no longer stay sober, and fashion execs give up on her. She becomes too much of a risk. And when given the choice to be with her girlfriend or her drugs, she sadly makes the wrong choice. The movie then takes a sad twist as she seems to be getting everything in her life back together.

Without giving away any more of the story, Gia is a definite must have for Angelina Jolie fans. She won a Golden Globe for her portrayal of a woman who had absolutely everything, but drugs destroyed everything that she had. I never heard of Gia Carangi before buying this DVD, but I'm glad I was able to learn more about the rise and fall of one of America's first supermodels. I definitely recommend the movie.

I saw this film when it came out but it took another viewing to realize huw strong it is. I was famaliar with the career of Gia Carangi during her rapid rise to the top of the fashion world long before the days of The Super Model. This film tells her story well. Angelina Jolie is superb. This is the best job of acting that I have seen from her. She was able to capture the soul of this tragic product of the 70's. In addition to fine acting, this film was photographed beautifully.

This is not just the story of a single character of an age but the story of the age itself and a story of tragic self destruction.

See this film. You may never see Angelina Jolie better than this.

I have always wondered if they would release this movie to dvd. I watched it on HBO when it forst came out and thought what a great perfomance by Angelina Jolie. Gia was definately one of a kind. Her influence on the fashion and modeling industries is eternal. If you get the opportunity to see this film, you will be changed forever knowing her story.

This movie is definitely not for all audiences with all the sexually explicit content, nudity, and drug use. Angelina Jolie stars as Gia, a very unique woman, who happens upon a modeling opportunity. Gia had a special beauty that was very popular during her time. This along with her careless nature led her to absolute stardom in the modeling industry. Gradually she lost it all when she lost her grip on realty by way of sex and drugs. Her drug use and promiscuity became her fall from grace.

My girlfriend is a fan of Angelina J. and we both wanted to enjoy the film together. We were both totally satisfied.

THIS IS A MUST SEE MOVIE. THE TRUE STORY OF AMERICA'S FIRST SUPERMODEL THAT FELL VICTIM TO DRUGS AND UNHEALTHY BEHAVIORS IN THE LIFE OF MONEY & GLAMOUR. ANGELINA JOLIE PORTRAYS GIA TO THE EXACT. HER ACTING IS AWESOME AND VERY PRECISE. I DONT THINK ANYOTHER ACTRESS COULD HAVE PORTRAYED GIA BUT ANGELINA. IF YOU LIKE TRUE LIFE MOVIES OR NON-FICTION BOOKS...YOU WILL LOVE THIS MOVIES. YOU WILL BE AMAZED AT SOME OF THE THINGS THE REAL LIFE PHOTOGRAPHERS DID...JUST TO GET GIA'S PORTRAITS WITH NO SYMPATHY FOR THE HUMAN SHE WAS. THEY JUST WANTED TO MAKE MONEY OFF HER AND LITERALLY WATCHED HER DIE. NEVER ONCE OFFERING TO HELP THIS LOST SOUL. CANT RECOMMEND IT ENOUGH.

After watching Gia once, I had to own it. Angelina Jolie is amazing in this biographical docu-drama about the beautiful Gia Marie Carangi. Her story is well-told with a great cast, wonderful soundtrack, and beautiful cinematography. I feel that almost anyone can relate to this movie in one aspect or another because no matter who you are or what walk of life you come from, we all have basic instints and needs. One of which; to love and be loved. This movie will awe you time and time again.

this movie not only shows angelina as an actress but, according to her, shows bits of her own life as well. though i think the narratives interrupt the flow of the movie, angelinas performance is still spectacular. who said being a supermodel was easy!

This is a tragic story of the life and death of one of the first Super Models. An exellent movie for its type. Jolie does sume of her finest acting ever in this very touching film. 10 out of 10

Jolie simply amazing in this flick! She's so incredibly beautiful and deserves more roles like this one!

An excellent dipiction of Gia Carangi's astonding ife. Angelina Jolie is superb-I was deeply moved by her performance-and may never be the same.

I saw this movie on HBO when it originally came out. It was the first movie that I saw Angelina Jolie in. I really enjoyed the movie. To see someone become America's first super model and how easy for a person to become overcomed by the pressures of the life, to start drugs then become addicted to them and let them take over your life. To treat friends and loved ones like crap, then end up catching an incurable disease and need the people you treated so badly.

GIA is a great documentary played by Angelina Jolie.

Totally ENJOYED the movie.

I was prepared for the emotional impact of the movie. Knowing of the disaster coming at the end made me upset to watch someone so young fall apart.
Being a Bisexual Woman I know the pain of being cast aside and I felt Gia's pain at failed relationships and a life gone out of control. It is more then a chick flick,,but the story of a generation that went wild and suffered for it.

I have seen this film before and wanted it for my collection. Angelina Jolie's performance is outstanding. I really like true stories and this one was very interesting but also very sad. It really teaches a great lessen about life and really drives home the point that doing drugs will destroy you and your life and the lives of everyone who loves you. It is not worth it! Life is precious and you shouldn't take anything for granted. It is a very touching and emotional story. One that everyone should see.

Great movie and perfect vehicle for Angelina Jolie. She said in an interview that she associated alot with Gia from her wild younger years. Adult only. Kids should not watch this. Violence, drugs,sex, etc.

"Gia" is a great movie. Its based on a true story about one of the first supermodels. I thought it was detailed well, showing how models struggle to be perfect for the camera. I decided to buy it because i am a big Angelina fan.

I am a huge Angelina fan, and that was the reason I bought this movie. I felt her acting was forced and unbelievable. Not her greatest hour, and the movie was hard to follow & disjointed. Sorry Angelina, I love you, but did not care for your portrayal in this movie.
