Ghoulies/ Ghoulies II (DVD, 2003)

First, to have both on one DVD front & back was cool. Gouhlies is in classic B movie style, kind of weird-trying to be so dramatic its hard to tell if they seriously meant it to be as over-the-top as it turned out. GouhliesII on the other hand is so "B-" that it is actually pretty funny. It is great as a goofy slumberparty 'yell-things-at-the-characters' movie. Not for the faint of heart or looking for a really good scary movie buyer. We are keeping it just for grins.

I used to watch cinemax as a kid and I remember watching the second Ghoulies and after that everytime I went to the bathroom I would run out as fast as I could, for like a year. I just knew someting would come up and grab me. The first one, which I hadn't seen before was cheesy and not bad. But The second was the best. I let my son, 9, watch this and he thought the first one was scarey and laughed through the second one. OF course a couple of times he had to be reminded that they were just puppets.

The movie is funny because it's so bad. My teenage son wanted this to watch with his friends; they seem to have a thing for all things cheesy from the 80's. I don't think it's a movie I could watch again (the first time was enough for me!), but if you are on the hunt for a low-budget movie from that genre, this is a good fit.
