Regardless of the numerous civil right smovies we've seen over the years, this film puts you right in the middle of the pain and suffering of those who lived it. Whoopi Goldberg should have won an Oscar for her stellar performance as Myrlie Evers. This movie also makes one wonder if things really have changed since the 60s in the South and is racism still brewing on the back burner as the world changes. A great movie with a great cast and just enough mystery to make you think about diversity in a whole new way because the story is from our own American history.

This is a weonderful movie. Alec Baldwin and Whoopi Goldberg are awesome in it. James Woods as the Clansman Beckwith was to a tee. The ending makes you want to stand up and cheer for the justice system. Excellent history story about Medgar Evers.

I bought this movie when it was first released on VHS, I have replaced most of my VHS collection with DVD's and this is just another movie that I was anxious to find. It is a wonderful depiction of how our country has struggled for equal rights for all of it's citizens, and the price that good people have paid for this goal. I was inspired by the story and also disgusted with how little value some people put on human life. Its nice to know that there are still some people that are willing to stand up and fight for equal rights for us all. Great movie! A+

a must see movie, excellently scripted good actors
Review created: 11/26/08

In these times, it is important to remember and learn from our past. This is a riveting reminder of what roles civil rights have played in our history in formulating the beliefs and ideas that are retained today. The rights to vote, to go to integrated schools, not be relegated to the back of the buses, denied employment and housing because of the color of your skin were fought and paid with many lives. Today, often the youth take these rights for granted and adults sometimes forget the struggles of the past. This movie reminds us of how the sacrafices of others have enabled many to enjoy the freedoms they now take for granted. This movie should be required as part of the school curriculum. The shipping was quick, I only wished that since I had ordered two of them at the same time and had them sent to the same address that there could have been a reduction in the shipping costs. The dvds were packaged well.
