Ghost Soldiers (The Great Raid) Philippines WWII

Easy and fascinating reading. Story flows well. It is difficult at times to read of the horrors experienced during war time, caused by enemy, environment, and logistics. It seems a well documented recounting of a very daring rescue as well as the military and political maneuverings of the time. Not to be trite, but it is a "page turner," especially if you had family or friends serving during that era and place. I am not a historian nor a war story enthusiast, but chose this because of the location, an uneasy compromise "colony" of the US.
I bought this to increase my understanding of the war fought in the Philippines, the island's history, the culture and its peoples. The history of the United States and the Philippines are intertwined. I began sensing this when I first visited the Philippines for work in 1998. And now married to a Filipina, my life has been caught in the web.
