Gevalia CM-500 12-Cup Stainless Steel Coffee Maker

The Gevalia Coffee Maker, the 12 Cup CM-500 is a decent coffee maker, with all the main functions you'll need in a good coffee maker. However, you'll have to become part of the Gevalia family to get the special deal on the coffee maker, unless buying from a seller that already is a member and is passing on JUST the coffee maker to you. In that case, you can't go wrong if the price is around $15.00 or less. I priced several coffee makers at a large discount store, all with the same or similar features. Since Gevalia requires that you become a member, at least in the beginning with 2 packs of coffee, the maker can end up costing more than you think. I bought into the free coffee maker from an ad in a magazine and promptly got my coffee maker and my 2 packs of coffee beans. The quality of the coffee was "Good", not "Excellent" and not "Poor", but average in the scale of the many coffee brands out there. Enjoy your new coffee maker, if you have one, but steer away from the free coffee maker unless you seriously want to get involved with a coffee club. You can cancel at any time, but forgetting to call them or write them will cause coffee to be sent to you on a very regular basis! Enjoy!

I LOVE COFFEE AND THEREFORE LOVE THIS COFFEEMAKER! I liked the club because it's very accomodating. You can choose to have the coffee billed and sent to you on a regular basis or select when you want it to be billed and sent. They also have a wide variety of coffeemaker styles, colors, and not ridiculously priced. Not to mention, I've ran into problems with my coffeemaker's in the past and they'll send you a replacement asap and that's service!

I see that most people had a good experience with the coffee maker but mine was terrible...

I have had it about 7 months and it started leaking all over the place - at first I thought it was me because the opening to pour into is so small I would be likely to spill - so I tested it and it was not that. I thought it might be a fluke but no - by morning 5 or 6 paper towels were sopping wet everyday...

It was free but that does not mean it has to be sub-standard. In fact, you do give something for it - a promise to be in the "club"

Anyway yesterday I had to spend 50.00 to get a new one but at least I can complain if it does not work properly.

These are notorious for having cheap heating elements. they fail after a few months of use. It's a shame since it's actually a good coffee maker. I also noticed that other more expensive machine like Cusinart are made by the same china company.

I purchased one of these a long time ago (about 1.5 years ago) and it still works excellent. Purchase price was 89.00 through the gevalia coffee catalogue. When brewing it makes the whole house smell like coffee. very nice.

I wanted to purchase a Gevalia because it is the only coffee maker that has lasted in our office for any length of time. So I went to purchase one for my home and found out they did not sell them in stores, you have to join the Gevalia coffee club. I love the coffee maker but did not want to join Gevalia's coffee club to get it. Someone told me later that you could join to get the coffee maker and then cancel the monthly coffee club. Somehow, I just feel that is dishonest so I went to E-bay to buy the coffee maker. I absolutely love it! All my experiences on E-Bay are positive.

It is very easy use and clean. Few buttons to deal with so easy to program. A bit tall so not easy to use under a cabinet as it must be pulled out to fill with water and coffee. Very nice looking. I have bought Gevalia coffee makers in the past as well as many others but Gevalia is a great product.

What do I love about this product? THE PRICE! Seriously, this is a very nice coffee maker. I've had it for about three years, it still works great. I also like the streamlined look. I was not impressed with the coffee Gevalia offers to it's coffee club members. The coffee was overpriced, but I got a great coffee maker.

We have been Gevalia coffee drinkers for many years, so this isn't solely about the company, it's about the quality of coffeemaker they are being supplied. We opted for a new plan (which we've done several times over the years) and Gevalia did send our coffee and a new coffeemaker(CM500) right away. The thing tasted like burned electronics, and smelled up the entire house. We tried the old routine of running a 50/50 solution of vinegar and water thru it, etc., no help there. We called about it, and they promptly sent another one.....same results. Again, we called, and much to their credit, we recieved yet another coffeemaker, same brand, same design, same color, which did the same thing.
We couldn't live with it, and at that time went out and purchased another coffeemaker, and now buy our coffee locally. I tried several times to reach someone at a higher level in the company, to inform them that they needed to put some pressure on their manufacturer, to get the problem solved, but to no avail. Finally, we just gave up. I have to give them credit, the people whom we dealt with at least tried to make it right. If anyone needs a nice planter for their garden we have three of them! :) Someone tell me, are we alone in this situation?

Gevalia has the best coffee makers around. I have two, the oldest 3 years old, the other almost 2 yrs old, and still working as great as the day they were received. I left the coffee program to try another and it was a poor substitute. I then returned to Gevalia, receiving my second CM-500 stainless steel maker, which I planned to give to Mother as she was hinting for a new maker for X-Mas. I also received 4 1/2lb boxes of coffee. You can choose from whole bean or ground- and I find the Peruvian Organic Select Beans to be a 10 out of 10, just as many of their selections.
Gevalia's Customer Service is beyond belief. I received a shipping box that was dented in one corner, and only slightly affecting 1 of the 4 boxes inside. Since I give the coffee as gifts, I requested a RTV (return to vendor) label to send back and get a replacement. Instead customer service said keep it, and resent 4 new boxes at no cost, with special instructions to hand deliver and 'FRAGILE' on it. Since, all shipments have been shipped the same.
Problems, yes. It is in fact Tall, but fits fine under the cabinets on the kitchen counter. You do have to move it out a little to pour the water in, but the glass carafe has a pour spout so the pouring is simple. Filters can be bought cheaper at any grocery store (vs Gevalia), albiet they are slightly higher than your basic Mr. Coffee filters.
You can sign up by phone, mail, and email, and memberships start from $9.95-$19.95, with further shipments at your schedule. You can cancel after receipt of the maker and coffee, but some may feel uneasy doing this. If so, you can order the CM-500 12 cup, and 2 boxes of coffee (1lb) for around $125.00. Cheaper coffee makers are available, but only will save you from $10-25.00.
BEST BET: THE CM-500 and the organic coffees.

My coffee pot at the office died and I decided to purchase a good system. We are very pleased with the coffee and I feel as though I got a very good buy.

Cons_ hard to fill with water,condensation remains under lid,and coffee tastes and smells like plastic, no matter how many times you clean it.Buy something else. This is one time free is not a good thing

I bought this pot because the first one I owned broke.. I really like this pot because the coffee brews hot and stays that way. I don't like the way you have to put the water in the pot on this newer model. I always seem to spill water on the counter. Also the maker doesn't seem to stop pouring into the pot when you remove the pot. It is supposed to stop but It keeps spilling. I am sure it is just an defect in this particular coffee maker....For the price it is a great deal. Like I said I went out and bought a second one.

We were in need of a new coffee maker and decided on the Gevalia,because all of other kitchen appliances are stinless steel and we liked the look of it.The only draw back was,the Gevalia coffee maker did not have instructions in the box when we opened it.Other than that,it is working GREAT and makes wonderful coffee.

I'M FAMILIAR WITH THE QUALITY OF GEVALIA COFFEEMAKERS, I NEEDED A COFFEEMAKER WITH STAINLESS STEEL TO MATCH MY KITCHEN APPLIANCES; I'M MORE THAN PLEASED WITH THE PRODUCT BUT WAS DISAPPOINTED TO DISCOVER THAT I DID NOT RECIEVE THE 2 BOXES OF COFFEE & 2 BOXES OF TEA THAT WAS ORIGINALLY POSTED AS BEING INCLUDED WITH THE COFFEE MAKER. I bought this unit because my coffee maker was starting to act up. I fugured Gevalia would make a good one. It is OK but very picky about the size of the filter. If you dont have just the right one it will boil over and put grounds in your coffee.

I had this coffee maker for a while and I have to say that I'm glad it was through Gevalia, because when it broke they would send me a new one w/out charge. However, that happened 3 times in a 2 year time span so I can't bring myself to give this coffee maker high reviews.

The good notes: It did make good coffee when it worked and had all the functions a coffee maker should have.

Bad notes:
When ever I used the Gevalia Brand coffee cleaning packets in the Gevalia coffee maker - as directed - the coffee maker broke. It stopped filtering through and would fill up in the filter causing damage in the machine altogether. I had to use other methods to clean it, which can void out their warranty. REALLY frustrating.

Also, after a few months, if I pulled the coffee pot off to pour while brewing it would still drip out pretty quickly and make a big mess on my counter.

I wouldn't recommend paying for this coffee maker, but Gevalia coffee is very good and their customer service is very good as well. Since it comes free with the subscription - it is well worth the price.

like that fact that the coffee goes into a carafe not sitting on the burner....had Gevalia before as a product...

My coffee smelled and tastes like plastic. I tried the vinegar/water rinse, and ran water through four different times. Still, the plastic taste and smell was overwhelming. Gevalia was nice and sent me another coffee maker, the same (I didn't even ask!) and still, plastic tasting and smell, but not as bad as the first coffee maker. If I make my coffee strong, much better. Makes one wonder, is China making their plastics different these days? I remember the small four-cup Gevalia coffee makers from back over 15 years ago...pretty good! Cute too. Still, Gevalia is a good company and their coffee is good, and teas are pretty tasty too.

i really liked the way that it looked. so i bought it as a christmas gift for my step mother, who was wanting a new coffee pot. i really wish that it would have came with a sample of the coffee for her nut it didnt. although it came with filters and a scoop which was nice. i have been thinking of buying one for myself now. i love the proff. look that it gives off. what i would like to know is if they make the rest of my kitchen appli. i would like to catch a deal on those too. individually of course. i grade the pot an A+.

I have only used this Gevalia coffee maker a couple of weeks, but I would certainly recommend it because it is very easy to use and to program.

My coffee maker quit working, it was a Gevalia. I had this coffeemaker for several years and loved it. When I seen the same coffee maker on E-Bay without joining a club, what could be better. A great coffee maker and no club to join.
This is a excellent coffee maker.

I am very impressed with the Gevalia Coffee Maker . . . . it keeps the coffee nice and hot!! I have one already and like it so much that I wanted to have a back up in case something happened to the one I have. One draw back that I found is that the programming buttons are fairly sensitive and if I move the coffee maker I have to be careful not to touch any buttons or it might throw the time off (as it did the other night!!) and the coffee maker might start the coffee too soon. Evidently I hit the minute button without knowing and the clock time went ahead by about 30 minutes - not a big deal in my case. Bottom line . . . I'd buy another Gevalia Coffee Maker and will recommend it to my family and friends!!
