The clarity and the instrumentals were good. Ray Charles, the consummate performer strains somewhat in some of the selections but comes through quite well in others. Some performers such as Elton John seem to appear on everyone's duel albums...............a more wider range of performers should be used.
Ray Charles is an American Classic with the likes of Normal Rockwell. His brushes are his voice, his piano and his jazzy swagger. Connecting with each of the stars on this collection of duets, he draws from them and they from him and we, the audience, get to sit back and enjoy every luscious drop. Great for listening to alone or with a room full of people, there is something here for everyone.
Ray Charles will be missed very much! This compilation of songs just before he passed away rings in the diverse spectrum he has achieved throughout his very rich life. I especially love the talents he chooses to sing his duets with. An album deserving of a Grammy! Highly recommended!
GREAT CD... ONE OF MY FAVORITES.. GOT IT QUICKLY AND IN GREAT CONDITION!! I WOULD RECOMMEND THIS CD TO ANYONE WHO WOULD ASK. THE DUETS HE IS SINGING AND THE PEOPLE HE IS SINGING THEM WITH ARE COMPLETELY ENJOYABLE AND EASY LISTENING!
The music and genius of Ray Charles, combined with those who recognize and appreciate his contribution to the last fifty years of music make this album is a pure delight. It was a gift to my husband, who's love of blues and soul and jazz run deep and wide in his New Orleans soul...he could not have been more pleased. There will never be another Ray Charles...but with albums such as this to inspire and enlighten, he will live on in the music of every future generation of musical passion and genius...
I'd heard the Elton John/Ray Charles collaboration track and finding it decent, thought I'd give "Ray's last cd" a try. The Charles/Elton duet, unfortunately and despite the presence of many notable guests, was the best I heard. I'm a fan of much of Ray Charles'older 60's and comparatively newer 90's stuff, but this was not up to par. If you really liked the Sinatra and guests cd's, you may fall for this fiasco, but I'll go back to previous Ray Charles cd's such as "Ingredients in a Recipe for Soul", "Best of the Atlantic Years", and "My World" and remember "The Genius" for those.
