A fun how-to for the young at heart - and body

I saw the author on the Martha Stewart Show remodel some tees and I couldn't wait to buy the book. I swear by Martha and wouldn't think she would promote something she wouldn't do herself. Megen Nicolay is a designer that gives step-by-step, easy to follow instructions to revamp old t-shirts. A lot of the finished designs are super-cute, however impractical for a full-figured mom such as myself. If you look at the picture of Ms. Nicolay (that's her on the cover), she is young, punk and thin as a rail. If you are too, and you have a lot of extra t-shirts that need new life, this book is for you!

Breezy and trendy and filled with Ideas to Inspire
Review created: 09/11/06

This book is fun, full of great ideas that are creative and you can add your own touches, you simply can't make a mistake, no matter what you do! The suggested designs are fun and easy to do, not much stitching required, just a little reconstruction, that's all!

The T-shirt is the starting point; the 108 end results - many of which have an edgy, even punk-like feel (much like the projects in Debbie Stoller's Stitch 'n Bitch) - range from slightly modified tops requiring no sewing to much more intricate fashion products like the sexy "sidewinder" skirt and the two-piece "teeny bikini," with variations suggested for many projects.

The T-shirt has not seen a revival like this since the birth of the baby tee! So far, I've done almost 20 and plan to do more with all those old promotional T-shirts stacked up in my drawers.

I always wanted to be able to design shirts, or should I more accurately say, re-design? This book gave me the play-by-play instructions to do just that. Very easy to follow and to help you pick what re-design goes with what garment. I highly recommend this book to beginners and experts alike.

Generation T - Great Fun for your Wardrobe
Review created: 04/07/08

I love all the ideas. The directions are easy to follow. You can easily use your imagination beyond the 108 ways they show you. I bought it because I have tons of t-shirts that I don't wear because I hate the T-shirt necklines. the sleeves are always too big and I hate the way they fit. If you've received souvenir T-shirts them from friends it's impossible to give them to the goodwill because they shop there and will see them. Now I can turn them into something wearable. Many of the ideas do not even need sewing...just cutting. I would recommend it as a great book for any age and it will enhance your creativity.

Easy to read instructions on how to make different things from tee shirts. It had projects for "destroying" tee shirts, making skirts, bags and the list goes on. Great graphics and easy to follow instructions. Any one interested performing tee shirt surgery should read this book.

SUPER CREATIVE WAYS TO BE TRENDY!
Review created: 09/05/07

1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

This book of t-shirt revisions is an awesome way to scream creativity and individualism! Giving you 108 ways to revamp a tshirt into anything from a cool tote bag for school books to a fashion masterpiece! And all of this can be done with only a few tools, including a tshirt (obviously), a pair of scissors, and a thread and needle will do the trick for most projects.

Fun book for beginner to intermediate level sewer

Some of the projects are way easy, even somewhat surprising that they are included in a book because they are such no brainers. But several of the projects are super cute, yet still easy enough to make in one sitting. The hardest part for me has been to decide which t-shirts to start chopping up first!! It has also helped me to clean out and reinvent my closet without spending a dime!

This book has loads of creative ideas, especially for teens. My 11 year-old granddaughter introduced me to it; she has just begun sewing and loves this book. I teach disadvantaged teens at a summer sewing camp and I will incorporate some of the ideas in Generation T into my classes.

A Christmas Gift for My Daughter
Review created: 01/02/07
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

My teenage daughter was so excited about receiving this book, that she started on her first project immediately. She says the directions and suggestions are easy to follow. Her projects (three so far) are all creative, unique, and so totally her! It was a very successful gift, placed in a sewing basket (okay, a lined picnic basket that really looked like something she would like - and did), with a couple of plain t-shirts, thread, needles, a pincushion, etc. It was one of her "best" gifts this Christmas.

This is such a great book. The instructions are well written and very easy to understand. My daughter was making new t-shirts in about an hour of first getting the book! Great ideas. Fun book that anyone who likes to have their own style will love. Has awesome photos and drawings that make it quick and easy to follow. Most of the ideas are no-sew. Ideas also for home decor. This is just a great book!
