Raw, Honest, emotionally clairvoyant this is one of the best books on the current Iraq Conflict I've read (and I've read tons). I got into Evan Wright from his Rolling Stone articles (which are fleshed out and used in Generation Kill and would really recommend this. I know the cover kind of stinks, and the title is a little too dramatic but the book itself is great. Again, I read this book a year ago and still think about the stories within daily.

  Generation Kill Hardback Review

I purchased this book after watching some of the Mini Series, "Generation Kill" on HBO. I found the Book to be a much better stry than the Mini Series. The Book helped explain to me the attitude of the New U.S. Soldier as compared to the Soldiers I served with in Vietnam.
I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys fleshed-out characters and a good story.

  cool book

cool book, it shows how American kids are raised, and how they live their futures, lots of the kids in the military "9-11 era" grew up in house holds playing grand theft auto, listening to 2pac/gangster rap, hard core rock n roll crazy music, horror sci-fi, explosive, drug, crime, violence movies, money hungry life stylesm etc,, but for the most part of violence, some in Iraq will NOT come home depressed/sick/crazy bcus of violence in Iraq, bcus of how they grew up with those surroundings, they live to kill! this is their chance to hypothetically be in Grand theft Auto, war movies, etc, one of the soldiers said, all they need is some good music in the back ground, the music seems to blurr them into a trance/excitement of killing,.. they laff after being shot at, and finding out everyones still okay after their humvees are riddled with bullets, boyy do they've got a "HUMOR".... sigh... what has America become...?

  Iraq war must read

A sober view of super grunts at their best. This book really captures the chaos and comedy of war.Evan Wright is to be commended for risking his own neck to bring back a book that helps make sense of an often misunderstood subject. Not a lot of rah rah smoke in this book. This is a real treatise on the modern USMC that includes strong ncos, crazed pfcs and officers that range in leadership ability from brilliant strategists to dangerously incompetent fools.
A fast read and worth the price of admission.

this is a good book. definitely entertaining to read, but you can definitely tell its written by a journalist. mildly sensationalist. if you want a real grunt's perspective of the same story take a look at One Bullet Away by Nate Fick.
