Generation Kill (DVD, 2008)

I have seen the Mini-Series on HBO. Generation Kill follows the 1st Marine Division's strongest force, 1st Marine Recon. These Mini-Series of 7 episodes follow the Division in the introduction of Operation Iraqi Freedom. It shows the real side of war and what the U.S. Marines think of it, and it shows how it has effected the Iraqi citizens. A must see! The best of the best Mini-Series out there.

I happened to catch most of this series through my pay-cable package and was instantly enthralled with it on so many levels! The Producers have come up with another high quality offering which challenges most of the past productions about US military actions abroad. The dark undertones of this seven-part series is there for those with the insights to distill it from the on-screen action and dialogue. This is what television should be about when investing viewing time !!

This is a documentary/mini series that is screaming of reality. This is the silent ruth, trying to get out so that many other people can see what is really going on. The reality of leadership nitwits, negative performance of fabricated heroes and the pointless war that is going on in the other side of the planet.... what waste of lives, resources and time!
Great coverage, great acting, great perspective. It should be watched in every American History classin the country.

I bought this series because I had caught the end of one of the shows. I liked the little bit I saw so much I thought I'd purchase the entire series to see what I missed.

This is an awesome box set. Great portrayal of the war in Iraq. Alexander Skarsgard (Iceman) is great. The series has alot of funny one liners. I loved it.

I watched the mini series when it was on hbo and after it ended so i searched and searched for it and finally found it at best buy but they wanted like 65.00 for it so i searched it on ebay and fonud it for really cheap love it great deal.

If you read the book then get the series! I got the book and loved it because of the detail of the everyday life of Recon Marines. The series from HBO did a great job depicting the books message in film. It is a must see!

Yes it is very realistic in a lot of ways. Yes atrocites do happen. And Yes there are a few messed up officers out there. But after serving 8 years in the infantry. I have never seen this messed up stuff in one unit. On one hand I can watch this series and enjoy it's twisted grunt humor. But on the other hand I can see a bunch of liberals watching this and thinking that this is what all units are like, confirming their hatred of the military in general. I really enjoyed it. But there are a lot of people out there who will take this the wrong way.

Great drama about the second Iraqi invasion, told by a Rolling Stone reporter imbeded with the Second Marines Recon. The acting and script are first rate. Great detail is paid to realism, both in dialogue and historical fact.
The story is told from a non partisan viewpoint regarding the invasion. A must for everyone interested in how our voluntary military forces are expected to perform above and beyond what is expected from them. The special features and commentary add to the luster of this DVD.

This is a wonderfully produced TV mini-series based on a fascinating book by Evan Wright (of the same title). The stories of these Recon Marines are engaging. Episode 5 is extraordinary. I highly recommend the entire series. I also recommend that you purchase the book as well. There are details in the book - especially about the guys after the first six weeks of the war in Iraq - that are very interesting.

This TV series as all HBO series is great, it gives a good description of just how big of a big jumbled mess the initial wave was during OIF. Alot of the conflicts and stuggles portrayed within the series arent too far from the truth, I especially like the part where they were complaining about not having the stuff they needed to complete the mission and having to buy some of their own gear..... been there... done that. Anyway its definately a great series, I highly reccomend it!

I thought this was a very good movie! It is very long but it is worth watching. I am very happy I purchased it. If you are a war movie buff like I am, then this is the movie for you. When you purchase it, it comes with a detailed booklet of all the terms that are used in the movie including maps and missions. I don't recommend it for anyone under the age of 17 because there are some gruesome parts but no more then any other war movie. This has to be the best movie about our men and women over seas that I have ever seen. There are some movies about our recent war that are horrible but this one isn't. The actor who plays "Brad" platoon sergeant and "The God Father" due an awesome job. When you watch the movie you'll understand why they call the one "The God Father" if you ever seen the movie, "The God Father". This movie is worth renting and/or buying. I don't purchase a lot of movies because I rent most of them, but this one is worth buying. My heart and prayers go out to all our men and women who are serving any where and those that have surved before them. God bless America!

This was a good series. The only bad thing about it is when it ends. I would recommend it because it shows not only the positive about coming ino this war but the negative as well. It is an extremely well produced series.Watch it

The dvd came scratched. I contacted the dealer; they responded once and that was it. I would not recommend buying from this person again.

Generation Kill is one of the best HBO miniseries i've seen. It's very gritty and realistic, that you wont want to stop watching, i hope HBO finds another war book to recreate through a mini series, because it's great what the men do.

This Gritty series reminds me of the movie Jarhead. This is a great p.o.v. for anyone who loves what we do.

I love this movie. I am not one for war movies, but this one takes the cake. The truthfulness of it and how the actors were like one with the poeple was awesome.

I absolutely love this mini-series!! Everyone should watch it, it's hilarious and gives you a different perspective on the way in Iraq.

Band of Brothers for the modern era. While I'd like to think that most of the stories depicted in this mini-series have been dramatized for Hollywood appeal, I know that there is always a certain amount of truth to them. It is an indictment on today's military that a lot of the officers depicted in this series are more worried about advancing their careers than on doing what is best for the battle and their men. This series draws the viewer in from the start and you find yourself empathizing with each and every soldier depicted. While full of profanity and other inappropriate comments that are not suitable for younger viewers, the series tells it's story well and is definitely a "must-see" for those more mature viewers.
