I first came across this book at the library -- what an amazing little book! So I ended up buying a copy on Ebay for less than $5.00 -- look around -there are deals, plus my postage cost was around $8 or so (actual cost to the seller was about $4.00). Fellow Canadians - watch out for over the top shipping costs that some sellers are attempting to charge you for the priviledge of mailing the book to you - this book is light so DON'T pay $20.00++ -- that is a complete rip off. Shop around, the book comes up at a good price from time to time - and it's worth waiting for. The pictures are amazing - they should clear pics of what the gems look like in their raw state, as well as cut state -- it's nicely organized and it's a handy size. Neat little reference book. Cannot say enough nice things about it. Buy if you can!

This is a perfect travel sized handbook with excellent color photos and gemstone data to help you make a positive Identification.
not only does it cover the very common precious gemstones but lesser known semi precious gems this handbook is a great piece of reference material but is also so easy to follow that it would make for a great introduction of gems to children as well

This is the best book, you can find it for about $10 with shipping and you can use it forever. It has one of the most complete listing and enormous amounts of information about each type of stone. I use it daily for my business. Highly reccomend it to all! Perfect for a gift this christmas season for a young or old stone collector.

This is a great resource for rockhounds, amateur jewelers or anyone interested in learning more about the structural/physiological properties of their favorite earth treasures. It has more pictures than any book of its type, making identification an easier task, often showing gems in their raw state.

This book is totaly awesome. I have been buying and selling stones for 30 years and 7 years ago I came across this book. It is the best handy guide I have and I use it daily. In fact, I have been given stones without a clue as to what they were and the book helped me discover that i had Axinite. A rare stone no one wanted in my town because it looked like brown quartz and had no name. Now that i found out what it is and i know it's worth a lot. With the help of the book, I bought the entire lot of Axinite and as a bonus i found it has an interesting color change if facet cut. Now i need an Axinite cutter!

I want to reccomend this book to anyone wanting to learn about precious gemstones and the treatments used in todays market. Also a lot of scientific data helpful when trying to identify a stone.
