Wonderful! - Greek tragedy and societal norms elements
Review created: 11/05/07

Well written, interesting view, hard to put down. Takes place in a post-nuclear era, where societal structure has had to adapt. Play running through it, tied to it, about Iphegenia (daughter of Agamemnon). Could be termed feminist, I suppose, but an interesting view all the same. Worth picking up.

Sci Fi preclude to ~Men are from Mars, Women Venus~
Review created: 08/10/06

Tepper has an uncanny knack of addressing a multitude of issues in her writing. This novel is dominated by the classic women versus men theme. Underlying feminist, environmental and ethical issues are focused on throughout the book, adding an extra dynamic to an interesting plot where men and women live, to a large degree, seperately.

Tepper's worlds are always taut with intriguing inter-relationships, and this one doesn't disappoint. Each individual's motive either conflicts or aligns to resolution between the age-old conflict of women versus men with an unpredicted surprise twist at the end. Good read - 5 stars.

* In my opinion, Sheri S Tepper is an outstanding writer however one weakness, evident in some of her books, is that she develops some characters too quickly, making them unbelievable. I rate each individual novels from 3 to 5 stars for being a great storyline, and thought provoking concepts. Tepper does 'lose the plot at times' however by large, her novels are a fantastic journey into another reality. I love the various worlds Tepper explores, her approach is refreshing and stimulates deeper thought on issues that touch our own lives.

Admittedly, in reviewing her work I am somewhat biased as I am quite a fan of her work.

If you like Anne McCaffrey, Robert Heinlein, any fantasy borderline sci fi, then you will devour Tepper easily.:)
