Garmin nüvi 270 Car GPS Receiver

I buy this nuvi 270 2 weeks ago and just simply love it !

it's great to hear the voice of this tiny thing to guide you through your destination step by step. And with the category ''where to go'' you can easily find what you want: restaurants, hotels and more when your not near home !

the only thing I dislike is when the nuvi '' battery '' is low , a window pop up in middle screen (under your map) at every 4 minute to remind us to plug it in for recharge :S when you are on a fast road with no possibility to stop the car to plug it,it's not funny .... you'll have to touch the sreen each time to erase this window for watch your courrant map traject.

Exceeded all my expectations. We were in Europe and it gave us better roads than what we knew, moving from country to country with no problems.
Very good product. Only negative is that you need patience to install the update

The Garmin GPS worked perfectly on my last trip to Europe (Germany, Netherlands, Belgium). Was really impressed how perfect it was.

This is my second Garmin GPS. The nuvi 270 is easy to use and a very capable GPS unit. I bought it to take on a trip to Europe as it comes with NA and Europe maps. Great unit for the money.

I like the way it speak the directions to you more than one time and how clear it speaks, everything right at your fingertips. Just key in what you need and it comes right up.I decide to buy it because my duagther has one and I was very impressed with her's.

This item is cheap!
But it does not work like it is cheap!
I would recommend this gps to anyone that is looking for one.
The voice is clear on it.
Also has good graphics.

We travel in Europe and spend a lot of time "lost". The Garmin 270 has an auto and a ped. mode, and it has European maps. I get the addresses before we go, load them in the Garmin, and now I don't get lost.

It was a last minute purchase before traveling to Europe.
At most it it a good devise. Was working good and show directions pretty definite. In france it made a mistake due to their highway number changed.
It is not the latest technology but good workimg device.
I can recomend it for traveling to Europe.

Good Points
The NUVI 270 is moderatly easy to use, provides good directions to places that are documented correctly. My wife and I are in real estate and it allows us to save time and gas as a real plus. It became habit forming before we realized it and has saved us lots of time preparing maps to houses all over the area. It is most useful if we have to exit a neighborhood after dark in non-familiar places and lack of street signs. The security feature is excellent. We only hope that a potential thief knows about it before they lift it.

Negative Points
The faults are few but still are worth noting. 1) the turn instruction in unknown neighborhoods is often too soon and we end up turning down the wrong street. 2) Some new neighborhoods are not documented. 3) Sometimes the vocal instructions must be muted when clients are in the car so a blue tooth feature might be worth considering. 4)There needs to be a default state/city for local navigation. 5) The "Recalculation" annunciation ends up being funny and rather useless when we detour or stop for gas. Storage of multiple way points would be more useful than 10,000 places to eat or shop.

Conclusion
Excellent choice of GPS when on a budget. It doesn't have all of the more expensive features but the need for the latest buzz in gadgets is often only used a few time until the user finds they only need directions.

Recommendation
Yes, well worth it.

My wife and I needed a GPS navigation system on our recent trip to Scotland. We bought the Nuvi 270 on ebay and purchased the extra Chip for Scotland/UK. The device was a life saver and cut a lot of time in driving from location to location; therefore giving us more time to see the wonderful scenery and landmarks. The Nuvi was perfect for our trip. Compact and easy to store in luggage and simple enough to use for my wife to operate as navigator. Located hotels for us and important sights to see on our route. Would recommend this device to everyone traveling overseas. Even when walking around town, a great little companion.

I did not receive what I purchased. I ended up getting a refund because the seller did not have any Garmin Nuvi 270 GPS sustems.

PRO:
- lowest price modle with NA and EU maps
- compact size
- easy to set up/use
- good signal receiption

CON:
- standard USB cable will turn it in "PC mode", have to use the trick by log in "test mode" to enable it to work with standard USB cable
- can only navigate/calculate from where you are
- costly to get updated map
- good receiption but a little slow to start up

Deliver was prompt, the refurbished GPS works great. Probably better than new since it has been 'field tested' and repaired.

I bought this because I hate mapquesting everywhere I have to go. In addition, gps systems are more accurate than mapquest and I can never ever ever get lost with this garmin. This was an excellent buy, I received the gps three days after I bought it, to me that is remarkable. It works perfectly and I am satisfied.

I bought this product mainly because I was going on a trip to Italy and this model had US and European maps unlike most other products on the market in the US. The product worked well enough all over Italy, with some exceptions, stemming mainly from the fact that this is an older model. Also, this was a refurbished model (hence the low price of around $110), but this didn't cause any problems. The problems I had were:

1) The maps are somewhat outdated. So in some places the system took me by older and slower roads instead of the newer highways that have been built. It also took me to closed highway entrances, causing major delays and detours. The best way to use this system is to combine its guidance with road signs whenever possible. When you follow a road sign that is at odd's with the system guidance, the system eventually figures out where you are and modifies its guidance accordingly.

2) The system loses connection with satellites very easily. This was mainly due to the large number of tunnels in Italy. However, the system loses satellite connection in narrow streets and sometimes in open areas for no reason at all.

3) When the system starts from its "off" state, it's very slow, possibly because of a slow processor and relatively little memory.

4) The system doesn't give the user the option to choose a route from multiple possible options.

One advantage the system provided that I haven't seen in built-in navigators here is the warnings it provides about speed enforcement cameras together with the local speed limit. This was very useful in a place like Italy where there are far too many of them and where speed limits change constantly.

Bought the Nuvi 270 new for $130 because I wanted the Europe maps for my next overseas trip. Won't be going overseas until next year but I made a road trip to Canada and for the most part, it worked well. I tried to find a few small local restaurants that showed on the GPS but it led me to residential complexes. Wish I got text-to-speech because I have to read the street names of the upcoming turns and take my eyes off the road. But a solid navigator.

It has all the basic features & it works pretty nicely. The only drawback is that it takes slightly longer to acquire satellite.
Otherwise the smaller screen goes easier into the back pocket & the big advantage is the Europe map that comes with it.

I bought this preloaded with maps of Europe and North America. Worked great in the US but passed the test when I took it on vacation in Germany, Austria and Switzerland. Had a rental car and plugged her in and away we went. Worked perfectly. Took me down town Wurzburg to our Hotel which I never would have found. Loved it.

I bought this unit for a 2 week vacation in Holland, Germany and Italy. I also own a Nuvi 260 in the US, which only has U.S. & Canada maps and love everything about it (i.e. EXCELLENT). Here's the comparison of 270 with Nuvi 260:

PROS:
* European maps pre-loaded: more than 20 countries in Western and Eastern Europe
* Safety camera and speed limit alert (not found in Nuvi 260)
* Lots of Points of Interests
* Compact - same 3.5" screen size as Nuvi 260 fits in pocket for use in pedestrian mode

CONS:
* Takes a long time to acquire satellite - when we first arrive in Amsterdam from USA, it took us more than 3 minutes to lock on the satellite. Once you've locked on, it takes about 30 secs to acquire satellite after turning it off and on again. However, if you've moved to another country, the unit seems to take a long time again to reacquire satellite - more than 3 minutes...so you have to be patient
* Unlike Nuvi 260, which says out the actual street name or highway number, the Nuvi 270 only says turn left or right, so you sometimes have to check the screen to see the actual street name.

Please note that my comments relate to a refurbished unit of Nuvi 270 versus a brand new Nuvi 260. For the price I paid, it beats renting from the car rental company.

I must say that I had other GPS's and none of them were as good as this one the 270 by Garmin, I went from Milan to Modena, Malcesine, Salzburg, Prague, Zurich, Lucern and back to Milan, this GPS took me from door to door with no problems I din't had to look at the maps for anything, I place my trust into the GPS and it was worthit. I strongly recomenden, I just saw a newone by Garmin the model 275T with FM traffic advisor I think it may be a better buy.
I must say that I read other reviews about other GPS's and they all said the same thing, good luck.

Great GPS when traveling in Europe which was the reason I got it. I purchased the item in the US to make sure that it works since it has both maps the USA and Europe. I had no problems even using it in Berlin a complicated city to find interested places.

I am thrilled with this product. It has helped me in many situations find the address I need. Just the reason for my purchase. We did a road trip to Colorado. I was able to find the Village where we stayed and friends addresses in other cities. Just for Fun, while on a hike I plugged in the name of the trail and it told me which National Park I was in and the name of the campground. I most likely will upgrade down the road, but for now this product suits my needs and I am happy I own a GPS.
