Garmin nuvi 265W Car GPS Receiver

I like this Garmin much better than my C340. It's more compact, you can move the maps with your finger,and "where are you" gives elevations and contour maps, Neat! The sound guality is not very good though.I switched to the male voice and its a little better,but not great.

I also own the Garmin Nuvi 260 which I have used for about 2 years in my mostly travel based job. The 260 and 265WT units are both great GPSs units. I have had repeated success in many different states in the US with the 260 getting me to my destinations and I’m sure the 265WT does just as well. These units both have great features and they are really nice; a few odd directions like having you make u-turns, etc. but as long as you keep your eyes open, you should be able to make it work for you.

-Great GPS unit with great graphics
-Fits easily in pocket when leaving car.
-Built in security feature- password to unlock OR proximity unlock from a place of your choosing
-Turns announced in advanced of the turn
NEGATIVES:
-Traffic feature is non-existent / useless (based on 2 months of driving), see detail below
-Map display is only accurate to within 40-80 feet
-Speaker distorts if too loud (i.e. over 80% volume setting) (*NOTE- If driving with windows down you have to have to have volume at 90-100% or you may not hear the audio.

Traffic detail;
The traffic feature on the 265WT is worthless. I bought the unit new in May 2009 and I drive about 165 round trip miles a day between northern Baltimore and southern Washington DC. My daily trip has at least 3 major routes that I can use, and my thoughts were that the traffic feature in the 265WT would automatically make the route selections based on the variable traffic for the area. I generally check other traffic services on my (large display) cell phone like Google Maps and Traffic Navigation sites while traveling, and the 265WT has not yet been able to re-route me even when the delays are significant and alternate routes are obvious. In fact the 265WT would often select the worst route when traffic was a factor.

Purchased this on June 26th and received it on July 3rd. Been putting it through the paces ever since....

This thing works great! About the only thing negative I can say is that the speaker on the GPS isn't loud enough, but then again, that's due to the fact that I have my music on at a deafening level. Basically, the speaker volume level would be just fine at "normal" music level.

Traffic feature works great. Living in the Milwaukee metro area, this feature has helped me become aware of traffic slowdowns and backups. Don't even notice the free ads that pop up to keep the traffic feature free. Map is very easy to read and it's very easy to set up the features type in destinations.

I'm fairly confident this thing will help me navigate the problem that is Chicago traffic in a few weeks!!

Easy to setup and use. Very Accurate. Large display which is easy to read. Great GPS for the money. Came with a handy carrying case. Displays current speed limit, actual speed, speaks and displays street names, shows next turn (right or left) well in advance.

Like:Unit is very sturdy, USB power, USB to Computer, Memory Card slot...
Free Traffic for Life... Large Cities...

Love: the Details and POI, Bought for road trip to Alaska...
Was able to download POI from Google Maps direct to the UNIT...
Talk about easy to plan road trips...

Dislike: Short battery life, only an hour or so... Keep it plugged in...
Maps were old, about 2 years or more out... needed newest maps...


Over all a nice unit, have used it for the past four days...
Got me to a park in Louisivlle KY just fine, Took a trip into the country off KY 150, road was rerouted about 3 years ago, 20 miles in length, totally missing from map, 2009 version... sad...

Unit works great, has multiple option for custom config... Screen is large enough to see road names clearly, calculates routes quickly and recalculates just as quickly if you decide to change course for some reason...

Like the Photo map option off Google as well... Good buy around 160-180

This device works great right out of the box. Takes just a few minuites to set up and you are good to go. I am very satisfied with this product.

this item is cheap than mart item. you can save money. also it's so fast. some GPS is so slow than car move. it's not Good GPS. but this item is very fast. i like it.

I bought this idem because I thought it would tell the street name to turn on, instead it just says "turn now". It will let you read it when you touch the on-screen but while driving it is too dangerous to try to read and drive, especially in heavy traffic. The turn now directions is fine except when you have 3 different roads with three different names and they all bare left or right.

Today I got my item from UPS. I opened the box and I checked outside of GPS becase I wanted to check the status of the item.
However, I figured out that small damage(Scretch) on the serial number and Item number laber(it is on the bottom of the GPS). It seems like somebody tried to strongly push it to the holder. I think it could not be new one. I think it looks like republished one. when I bought this item, seller said it is brand new and not a republished one.

good product, fast recalculation. But sometime it does not make any sound. generally it is very good. It is the best GPS I have ever owned.

pros: inexpensive, touch screen, relatively big screen, easy to operate
cons: refurbished, battery life is not so good, built-in battery - cannot change/remove, directions are weird sometimes.

for $180 - it is a decent deal.

It was purchased as a gift and he just recieved it yesturday. So, I don't
know about performance. The price was good and the delivery was swift.

Bought this for a trip to a new area and boy did it pay off!!! A bit tough to download updates and get started but it was worth the effort. I was never lost and the fun "Monster" voice I downloaded kept us laughing on long stretches when "He" didn't need to give directions. I never felt insecure about where I was or where I was going and I didn't have to rely on anyone's shaky directions. Every driver should have one of these. He was only wrong once but everyone is entitled to a mistake once in a while. By the way, we named him Igor and this is definately a new member of the family.

fast signal pick up,compato navigon 7100,the navigon it's better and cheaper then garmin 265w<I have install garmin mobile on my npkia N85 phone,and it work as well as the 265w,make me feel waste when i purchase 265w

I had ordered for a Garmin Nuvi 265WT; but after initial hiccup, the unit started to work. This was my second Garmin unit and this is good GPS. The Live Traffic feature (T) was the reason for me to go for 265WT; but I feel let down. Most of the time, the Traffic information is inaccurate. I'm stuck in downtown traffic and the GPS says everything is clear. I would definitely suggest one to go with Garmin Nuvi series, but not with Traffic.

Garmin nuvi 265W Car GPS Receiver is so small and hard to use compared to one in honda civic ex navi.

For a good reason I couldn't follow through with my purchase. They canceled it before shipping after my call to them. They were the best people to work with and handled my problem to perfection. AAAA+++

Traffic and Navigation slow and inaccurate in congested and big cities like Atlanta, NYC. Didn't try the bluetooth though. Widescreen is nice. Battery life could be more. Multi-destination routing is needed.

I have been pleasantly surprised with the performance of this GPS. I bought this to replace my Garmin Street Pilot 340C. The 265W is unbelievably better. I love the wide screen display, and the navigation has been slightly improved as well, regarding the way the maps and directions are layed out. There is only a few things I would have liked to have seen different. Garmin took the volume controls off the side of the unit and built them into the software of the touch screen, which means you have to click into the settings menu to adjust the volume. This in inconveinent if you are driving in noisy environments, or if a passenger gets a phone call and you want to turn down the volume quickly. The brightness control is hard to get to in the menu as well compared to the older Street Pilot models. I have light sensitive eyes and like to back the brightness off for night driving. I have learned to deal with it, but it would be nice to have a quick setting to make this easier to change. On a positive note I do like the built in bluetooth, although sometimes depending on how noisy the surroundings are it is hard for the person on the other end to hear me when talking to through the GPS. It works well when there isn't much road noise. The built in traffic is nice too I guess although it hasn't saved me from a major traffic jam yet, but I don't commute very much so I didn't buy it speciffically for that feature anyway. I have been annoyed a couple of times when I have had my truck running in the garage warming up and I am in my kitchen and my cell rings and the darn GPS still has a bluetooth signal and the audio comes through the GPS instead of the phone, leaving going, "hello, hello". That is a testimate to the rang of the bluetooth capabilities though I guess. In conclusion I am very pleased with the Garmin 265W. It is by far a great value for the money and compaired to competitive brand GPS's that I have used, I would not buy anything else but a Garmin.
