Garmin nuvi 255W Car GPS Receiver

The unit is great and very accurate. Easy to use right out of the box. The speech feature is very helpful because it tells you where to turn so you don't have to look at the unit. I got it at a good price on Ebay and so far I am very happy with my purchase! The best feature is that it is portable so you can use it in different cars.

I guess I've been very pleased with the use of the gps. I shopped and researched several weeks before picking this model. It was important to get the Canadian maps and a little bit to have the wide screen. This is my first gps, so I took people's advice on the wide screen, but I'm not sure if it really matters that much. The screen is very clear and the touch screen is easy to work with. The mode where it switches from daytime screen to night screen is very nice to avoid having a very bright daytime look to a black background that is not distracting. It is very accurate on time of arrival and actual speed travelling. Accessories are easy to obtain, so you can get a case and different mounts very easily. My only problem is that I can't figure out how to create a map in mapquest and import it onto the gps. All I can manage is to put the places that are end points for a trip. I bought a 2 gb SD for it, but the files that are saved locations are only a few kb each, so this was a huge overkill. The other feature that is helpful is "quickest" vs "shortest". Even shortest trys to use major roads, so that hasn't been trying to put me onto back roads, but only state roads. I just wouldn't call it excellent, but a good value for the cost.

Works like a charm....of course one has to have a bit of common sense as well and realize that you are dealing with a mini-computer. It's only as smart as the most recent info it is fed. That said, it works great. I've been especially impressed where the speed limit changes on the same road. The Nuvi usually picks up and shows the change withing about 15 yards....that's pretty darn good. I love the street names being spoken. The Austrailian gal is my favorite...today. A great product.

Super easy product to get started and begin using. I love the screen size and really crystal clear display. Easy menu's to help you navigate and really easy to use.

Got the GPS for my 65y/o mother and this was a perfect match. Self explanatory setup and fuctions. Would buy this gps again.

This is my first gps purchase. I researched for a month or two before finally buying this garmin nuvi 255W. There are so many to choose from these days that it is somewhat difficult sometimes to make a choice. I wanted a wider screen as featured in this 255W. One feature that sold me on this was the Hotfix fast satellite reception. When you miss a turn or decide to try another route the gps immediately goes into a recalculating mode and determines a new route within a few seconds. The great reputation of garmin and the ability for me to update my maps also was a consideration in making my choice. I do not have any dislikes with this unit. I am delighted to use this 255W nuvi everyday.

I had done some research about this product prior to purchase and found that it was supposed to have better satellite pick up than others, and faster mapping. This has been true. It works well 99% of the time. It was easy to assemble and use, very user friendly. The screen is easy to see and I like the feature that calculates what time I will actually get to my destination. I am "geographically challenged" so this has been a helpful tool for me in cutting down on "getting lost" time and easing anxiety about getting to and from new places. Occasionally some of the destinations are a little bit off, but not by much. I love the little flag that marks each destination. It is a great basic product for anyone who just wants a well-working, reliable GPS without tons of frills. I highly recommend this.

I bought this unti for my son for christmas. We have them in the trucks where I work. We compared it to the tomtom and others but liked the way it worked better than the others. I am considering buying one for my self and would buy another just like it.

I like that you have a phone number that comes up for each place your looking for. I like that it tells you how to turn and where the place is located. I like everything about this unit I have a 260 also these are way better than Tom Tom.

I bought the factory-refurbished Garmin numi 255W Car GPS Receiver. I have used it for about 3 weeks now. It has worked flawlessly. I have used it on a trip and around town. I would recommend the factory refurbished model, if you're looking to say some money.

I bought the Garmin nuvi 255W GPS because it seemed to be the closest to what I was looking for. I love the widescreen feature since it gives it a low profile look. This unit is very easy to use--even for my wife who is quite technically challenged. The touch screen is handy and seems to stay fairly clean. I wish the battery lasted longer, but as long as you have the charger cord handy it's not that much of an issue. I got mine as a 'refurbished' unit, but when it arrived it appeared brand new so that saved me some money. This is an awesome unit!

I bought this unit refurbished. It is a true plug-and-play GPS. It works right out of the box.

Pros: It says the street names instead of, "in 200 yards turn right", Long battery life - I have the unit above my rearview mirror and I don't like cords hanging, so I use it cordless and whenever I get to the point where it is something like, "travel 200 miles in I-75" I just turn it off for a while, The wide screen has brilliant resolution and is very easy to see, Tons of Points of Interest (looking for a parking structure or thai cuisine? no problem, Not that I need this but there are dozens of languages installed on this, It acquires satellites very quickly.

Cons: More expensive models have voice recognition and bluetooth capability as well as traffic and weather. This is not that important to me. Not really a con, but it is why the 200 series is less than the 7 or 800 series from Garmin's nuvi line.

I have no complaints and I just finished a 2000+ mile roadtrip to a lot of unfamiliar places and this unit was a life saver.

Bought the garmin 255w gps a weeks ago and i love it. I took it on a trip and it showed me all the points of interest in an unfamilar area, which was very helpful. Took me to hotel and airport and back home with ease. Probably not something you'll use everyday but you will use it more than you think. Lots of extras built in. Overall i think it's a great product and would recommend it to anyone looking for a gps.

Purchased this because of all the positive reviews on this model. It is very simple to use - even my husband who is computer "illiterate" can use this model. He says it's so simple. Love the voice too. Owned one prior to this, and the voice sounded like she had a lisp and talked with a speach impediment. That was very hard to understand. This Nuvi you can understand every word.
Love the fact it gives you street names, not just say turn next right.
Very Very happy with this model, and would highly recommend.

Also, prior to my purchasing this model from E Bay, I checked all the electronic stores, and the price I received this for was a lot lower than the stores.

I bought this GPS on the recommendation of a friend who had researched them and said the Garmin 255W was very highly rated. I used it a few times and it's a lot of fun. Some very minor quibbles are: the screen buttons are small so it's easy to hit the wrong key (guess I have fat fingers); took me a while to figure out where the space bar button is; and sometimes the Garmin does not say to make a left or right when you first start the trip and you have to look at the picture to figure out which way you should turn (for example, it said: "Proceed to Main Street"). I love the Garmin and think I could become very dependent on it! Would not hesitate to recommend it.
