This GPS works just fine, but I was disappointed that I had to buy an external antennae for it, which cost an additional $50. It's a small, low-priced unit, so I wasn't expecting a sophisticated system. I'm surprised at how much info is in it, and how accurate it usually is.

I was unofficially looking for a Garmin device for my wife. I looked on eBay and found a site that had several GPS devices by Garmin. I bid on the i3 and won. I am pleased with the product because it has lived up to its headlines. It verbally instructs you and also shows where you are on your route. I am amazed that so much technology is stuffed into a baseball size device.

The warrenty is no good for any purchases made through on line auctions. It says so on the warrenty. the unit never worked right, always had some glitches. It was sold as a recondition model and obviously they did not get all the bugs out. The power cord USB port came loose and broke 3 months after purchase, now it will not work at all, and I can not get it fixed because the warrenty will not cover auction items even thought it is a 1 year warrenty. It was a frauduliant way to advertise a full one year warrenty. $217.99 down the drain.

  Help for getting around.

Being in the Detroit area, you never know which roads/freeways are going to open or when. Getting lost downtown isn't fun. This handy little unit helps navigate unfamiliar territory with ease. It's fun too. My wife is jealous of the female voice. I also have peace of mind sending my children out knowing that if they get lost, the Garmin will get them back on track.

The only drawback to the i2 and i3 is the limited memory. I plan to get a larger chip. For right now, however, I don't need too many maps.

I made a big mistake in buying this product. It never worked well. Even when they sent me a replacement unit, it didn't work. Although the seller are very helpful I could not help but rate this product poor. I incurred extra bucks in the return of the unit and now the replcament unit.

It is a fun product. It has alot of info available in it. It has once shown correct map directions, but verbally told me to go me to go right when I should go left. The unit needs a flat spot to mount and my truck does not have many flat spots. It comes with a mounting plate to apply. I attached it to a dash pad.

am an Electrical Contractor and sometimes have to go to several locations in a day. Sometimes I have to go to some that are far away so instead of taking directions from my clients which 80% of the time I get lost, I bought a GPS.
The process that I went through was very smooth yes there were some snags but all in all It was pretty good. I would reccomend Ebay to anyone.

I think the streetpilot i3 gps is a very nice product. very small yet performs great. My only dislike is not being able to downloads more maps into the device at any given time. On the otherhand I suppose with a larger memory card that would be possible.

Have you ever gotten lost? This little Garmin can help.
Review created: 08/07/07(updated 08/14/07)

Have you ever gotten lost? Tired of having your wife or husband constantly mock the fact that you are “lost again”? I have the unfortunate curse of being absolutely directionless, if I make a wrong turn into an airport, it takes me ½ hour to figure the way out. If you have the same problem, this handy little device was a Godsend for me and could possibly be for you as well.

My first question was the following: Is there a subscription services necessary for this device? The answer is NO, just plug it in, let it acquire satellite signals and you are off (that is after you load the desired map data from a PC which only takes a few minutes).

Pros:
The device works using either a lighter adapter plug or it can work only on several AA batteries. It can show turn by turn directions or a map overview, both with audible prompts prior to each turn. Mine came with a suction cup mount for the window as well as a dashboard mount for those of you in states that don’t allow anything being attached to the glass. The color screen is easy to read and the programming of addresses is rather easy considering that there are only 2 buttons, one which is used to go back and change screens and the other, a wheel similar to a mouse wheel which is used to scroll to a specific address and pressing it chooses the highlighted address. An easy to use device which will certainly be welcomed by people that aren’t all that technical.

Cons:
Due to the fact that this is not a military grade device, the turns and/or streets can be off a bit (seems to be up to 45’ off at the maximum) if you are in an area with many close streets it could cause a problems, but chances are that you will be using it to find an address and not launch a Cruise Missile, so slightly off is certainly manageable. Although the screen is readable, it would certainly be better if the 1.3” viewable area was larger. I have recently noticed a slight glare or reflection during times of bright sunlight where the screen can be difficult to read due to the reflective quality of the device. The memory is limited so that you can load only several states worth of maps, so if you plan on a very long trip over more than 4 or so connected states, this unit is not for you.

Overall:
I would recommend this device; it has worked very well for me, I am able to read the device and program it quite easily. It is certainly accurate enough to serve my purposes and get me to where I’m going. It is inexpensive compared to other devices out on the market and there is no maintenance required. Hope this helps and happy bidding.

  My opinion

I like the clear instructions for traveling, it has helped me find unfamiliar places and streets where normally I would have been lost.

I wish I had more specific instructions as to how it has to be set-up for all functions, the basic instructions that come with the GPS are not adequate.

  GPS Value

I bought the Garmin a couple of months ago and was immediately impressed with the number of features available on this small GPS. My only complaint is that it sometimes take a very long time to locate satellite, especially when you seem to be lost or in a hurry. Nevertheless, once the satellite is located it gives great and accurate turn by turn directions.

TOTALLY WASTE OF MONEY. I paid $100 more then i should have. Only freight & duty cost me $100.00. It was not told anything that i have to cover duty myself.
$48 shipping charges only to put in the box.
Item looks big on e-bay. Its too small to see anything. I would not recommand to anybody. It was my first & last purchase on e-bay. TOTALLY DISAPPOINTED.
This GPS costed me $242 US dollars. I could have bought better one for the same price.
sucks...................

The unit gave good dorections until I got close to my mountain cabin. it showed the street name spelled differently than it is, and had me taking a couple of wrong turns. Just a problem with the downloaded map system. Wonder who to send corrections to?

I love the voice commands, the easy to follow diagram and the price I paid for it makes it all worthwhile.

Happy about Item, just not service
Review created: 07/09/07

4 of 7 people found this review helpful.

I had bid on few of the GPS systems...When I won this item it really wasn't what I thought it was..I read the information wrong..My fault..I called the company up and asked if they would upgrade for me and they told me no problem. WELL, I told them I wanted to confirm with my husband and would call them back. After deciding we wanted the next step up of GPS (Touch screen, easier for my husband to work) I called them back to find out they don't have an answer machine just a machine to say that "Our calls are important" but they are busy helping others....I tried several times a day for several days...I give up...So I emailed them a short note..Email came back with the reply "I will have a salesman call you!" Cool we are getting somewhere...NO WHERE! I still haven't gotten a call, I have emailed them almost daily and they are not emailing back, however their automated email comes to me. I finally was discussed and wrote them a nasty note and got a reply on which model was I looking for...I replied back and haven't heard from them since....BAD BUSINESS! I will never buy from them again and I have told my friends who as a matter of fact was going to buy a GPS system from them also...Not no more! iF THEY CAN'T DO IT (exchange) YOU DON'T SAY NO PROBLEM and then don't return calls or emails saying can't do it! We bought the GPS System for our vacation...well, we have a system, just only one I can operate and my husband has a hard time with...we will use it because that is all that we have! Very disappointed in this company....Started off good...Now has a sour note! This started in May....I have a copy of all my emails!

  Very Small...But Powerful
Review created: 02/02/08
by:
3 of 3 people found this review helpful.

This device is definitely not for people who have vision problems. This device is small! The screen in only 1.7 X 1.5 inches. This alone makes it very hard to see. BUT! With all of the features in the this product you would be interested to know that the Garmin I3 StreetPilot brings a lot of bang for the buck.

Being portable is just one of the features that this tiny wonder has. The GPS mapping is pretty decent. Not foolproof, but will serf ice for most of us users.

This unit comes with 2 AA batteries as it's powersouce. Although I have never been a fan of disposable batteries I suppose you can use them in a pinch. That is not to say that in 2 hours your unit will power off because of battery issues. This one also comes with a 12V adapter for the car. You can also power the unit using the USB on your computer. Handy for those travelers who need to know something while they are one the road, or have their laptops hooked up in the car. Service technician people perhaps...

The unit comes with a mount for your car...suction cup no less, however it does come with a permanent mount for your vehicle. At least mine did.

This unit also has lots programmed features...one of which I find hand is the "Intersection" button. Let's say that you don't have and address for your location or perhaps only street names "the corner of Wilson, and Main" let's say...input the two street names and you have now got a programmed route to those intersections.

It also has an Airport button. This is especially handy if you are taxi cab driver or a limo service. Push the button select the city, and it will give you a list of all of the airports in that city. That would be handy for the people who have multiple airports!

There are many more features to this unit and surely they won't give me enough space to describe them all to you.

For all of the "small" things in this world, I think this one is most likely the best unit for what you get in it.

I like the fact that I can just put in an address and it will take me directly to my destination with no errors. And it is so sleek and small it fits right under my mirror and is easy to reach without being in my view. I also like the way I can mount it and take it out at anytime. The software was easy to install and easy to use.
