Garmin StreetPilot i3 Car GPS Receiver

This little device is awesome! I also have one of the big 7" screen unit and I find myself using the i3 more. The reason being is that it is so easy to use. As soon as you turn the key, the i3 comes to life and ask you only two question: "Where to" or "view maps". The "where to" is my favorite because you simply pre load all the places you want to go and store them in "my Favorites" so no matter where you are, you can go to the "my Favorites" and find the best way to go.(including home) The only thing I don't like (and the reason for keeping the big 7" gps) is that you must have an address in order to make a route. For example I like to ride off road trails in the forest and if I find a nice camp site I can "tag" that exact spot(which is nowhere near any road) with my other GPS. the I3 is nothing but a blank white screen in the forest, but I guess it could still help you find the nearest road. In the i3's defense, it is called "street pilot" meaning it was design for road navigation only. All in all, I don't think anyone would not be amazed at the massive amount of data this tiny little device can hold. all the restaurants, store, gas stations, bank, car repair, etc and with only a few rolls of that wheel in the middle, you can navigate to any of these points of interest. I would Highly recommend this GPS!!

It was my first GPS of this type . Great starter GPS with the only drawback of updating software (cost 68.00) ....but the way I understand it true with any garmin. I'm a locksmith and it has saved me time and gas on my service calls.

it was exactly as advertised and I had gotten several of the same model from ebay for christmas gifts and found them to be very suitable for our needs

This is an excellent entry level GPS. I does pretty much the same thing as the larger units just in a smaller package. I have the Garmin 200W in my car and I bought the I3 for my motorcycle. Just like it's bigger cousins it can only accept 1 waypoint at a time. The screen size is easily visible even in fairly bright sunlight. I am finding that I'm going to have to use bi-focals while driving to be able to read this while driving since my eyes aren't that good for reading. If you can read a book without glasses you should be able to see the screen on this with no problems. It was fairly easy to add the maps although with the 128MB SD it can only hold part of the country at one time. A 1GB SD should be able to hold the entire country.

This system was nice and compact, I did not realize that you had to pick which area you want to download the maps for, I could only choice Florida, or parts of Florida, it was a good deal if you are looking for one that is small and you only travel your area. You can download other areas but the memory fills up and you have to do away with other areas. I would have spent a bit more and gotten the next one up.

I've been wanting one of these for a while now. I love it because we travel quite a bit and it's good to have something just in case you get lost. When you have a jusband like mine that's not great with directions or who leaves it up to someone else who's not good with directions, then it's great to have something to fall back on, just in case. Also, it's a lot smaller than I thought it would be, but in a way that's kind of good. That way it's not in the way.

was issued a navigator update disc ,which could not be used,issuing company myron ,phone number always busy,garmin stated wrong disc ,wanted me to purchase another for $79.00 dollars

I had been scrolling page after page of E-Bay adds looking for a GPS. I researched all models and brands via the Internet and settled on the Garmin StreetPilot® i3 Car GPS Receiver. It seemed to fulfil my basic needs. (To my surprise this thing is loaded.)
It was in my price range and all the extra gadgets didnt really interest me. I have a wireless headset for my phone, so why pay extra for one in the GPS. I have a stereo that plays music, so why do I need one built into my GPS.
I had only two reservations about this model. The first is that it has a small screen (2.7" as opposed to a 3.5" screen). Well good news, it actually is easy to read and as far as I am concerned, it is the perfect size.
The second reservation I had was the amount of memory for turn by turn navigation. The 128mb card included worried me. I was able to load approximately 8 states on it but that just will not do for me. I was able to purchase a 1gb card for under $20 and bam, all maps loaded with room to spare. I can drive anywhere in the USA and Canada with turn by turn voice instructions. I could even drive to Hawaii, but I would probably get the unit wet and its not water proof.
I can honestly say that I was as Happy as Dog in a Fire Hydrant Factory. For all non southern people, it met or exceeded all of my expectations. I recommend it highly unless you are one of those people who have the primo model. If that is the case, you probably won't be reading this review anyway, you will just be looking for the most expensive model out there.

I like the small efficient size. I like that you can increase memory through sd micro cards. I have other Garmin products and like the ease of use. It was at a price that is very affordable.

I like the size of the unit althought my wife thinks the display is too small. I was extrememly disappointed to discover the system had to have the software installed and would not load all the maps. The memoy is not large enought to handle the needs of a traveler from coast to coast. Therefore I would recommend this unit to someone who travels within a one to two state area and does not have a problem with eyesight. The voice announcement helps.

Evidently when Garmin discontinues a product the support is discontinued as well. The maps are 'I' dependent and no updates are available.

The I3 is a dream to use! No frills and ease of use are great, but the software is just not up to snuff even though the 'latest version.'

I run the same area while driving a truck. My maps were getting tattered and torn so investing in a GPS seemed logical. No frills, just directions!

The software is lacking and the lack of updates made the 'I' series obsolete long ago.

Because of this, sadly, Garmin products will NOT be on my shopping list in the future.

More than ANY OTHER FEATURE getting updated maps should be the number 1 priority in buying a GPS if you are concerned about actually getting to EVERY destination you enter into the unit. Most GPS units are bought as an after thought and rarely used to navigate to an exact address. Like most accessories in today's autos they are rarely used and just a profit medium.

To Garmin, you and I are a 'profit medium.' What happens in two years after your $300 NUVI needs maps? Your unit is obsolete and you trash it?

Maybe I'm being harsh on Garmin as they do have a very good rep, but without accurate and updated software they are over rated IMHO.

If you NEED a GPS, and I do, get one that guarantees timely map updates! Ease of use, hard drives that show pics or play movies are NOT what you buy a GPS for!

Map updates are numero uno for those that actually use a GPS!

I love this product first of all for what it is, a mobile, talking map. LOVE THAT. I also love the ease of using it. The only thing I don't like is the text style directions of what exit your taking as opposed to directly saying the name of the street you are taking.

We have both enjoyed the GPS. I know it's an older model but it works just as good as the new ones. I'm hinting around to getting one for my car.

The product was received inoperable and seller refused to take return. I have turned this over to paypal and they are working on getting my refund. I will NEVER buy from this seller again and I will tell anyone I know what a bad, lousy experience this purchase was.
