Garmin StreetPilot c340 Car GPS Receiver

Product Description
The StreetPilot c340 provides in-car navigation that is simple for anyone to use directly out of the box. After selecting a destination from the user-friendly touch screen interface, Garmin's text-to-speech feature tells users the name of the street, when to turn, and in what direction. If you miss your turn, the c340 automatically calculates a new route to the destination. Notification of traffic delays is a c340 option that lets drivers see congested areas via a color-coded map. This feature lets users avoid traffic by simply pushing a button that will calculate a new route. This traffic awareness is made possible via the new Garmin GTM 10 FM TMC receiver that connects to selected Garmin street navigation products. The GTM 10 receives digital data from specific FM broadcast stations in select major metro areas throughout the United States and Europe.

It's compact, transportable, extremely easy to use, with fine manufacture support. I visit clients a good share of the day. I don't have to pull over to look at maps anymore, in hopes of finding the best way to get there. If you get off track somehow, it will re-route you almost immediately. If you're hungry and not familiar with a particular area, the C340 can give you choices of restaurants, by particular cuisine if you prefer, with distance and directions to all of them. It even gives you a good approximation on when you might arrive to your designation.
For the past few months I've used it quite alot and so far, the only flaw I've noticed is when you are traveling at highway speeds, the voice commands may come a little late to make the turn, therefore you have to be more conscious of looking at the displayed directions.

      Garmin Rules!

The Garmin 340 is absolutely terrific. It's accurate to a fault, easy to operate, and provides a measure of safety I didn't have before when taking a long trip. I checked it against my speedometer and a stopwatch. The Garmin measured my speed more accurately than my speedometer. Other features are just as neat. Don't forget to update the maps from time to time at the Garmin web site. This unit is worth every penny!

      The 340c choice

Ebay asks that you write about your purchase, the likes and dislikes. Well it's not a bad ideal as I read others before deciding to buy it on Ebay.
So here is what I found. The dislikes I read about were there as others had said. The volume isn’t loud enough some times. If you like your windows down when driving or music at a level that isn’t softly in the background you will not hear the unit tell you directions. The mispronouncing of street names is funnier than distracting or confusing. Lastly I read a number of complaints from revues that said the unit just would freeze up. I’ve not found that to be true on the two units I bought.
What I have found is I like the unit very much. Are they the best one’s? No, would I buy them again after having used them yes! They do just what I want. They work! Even though there is a voice command, you can see the information displayed so that depending on the voice isn’t 100% needed. Looking at the display you will get to a point where you can anticipate when it’s about to tell you of a change before it does. On the mispronouncing of names, it does a better job than I do! (read that however you like). I live in the Great Pacific Northwest so in this area I’ve not seen a single case of the units freezing up at all. I do think tunnels and a lot of tall buildings may have a bad effect on the unit. These GPS units are helpful, I bought them not to be able to play music or read a book to me but just help get me to the destination put into the unit. They work great for that! A hint I’ll share is if you buy this model or any other model, once you get it, use it to take you places you already know how to get there. This is the best way to learn how to set the preferences of the unit and how your own method of getting somewhere differs. This is key to being happier using any of these units. Hope this help you.

Garmin c340 GPS is worth every penny!

Garmin is great at GPS. I am very pleased with the performance of the c340. It does what it does best, getting me to my destination by any route neccessary. If I know my way around an area pretty well, I can take shorter cuts than the GPS would normally send me. But when I'm out of my element, the GPS gets me right where I need to go. I would reccommend this unit over the c330, which has a few less needed functions.
