In short: In general, this GPS receiver's features are as are worth it for the price. This unit is able to store up to 3000 waypoints. This is significantly more than the average GPS device. Device is covered by a 1 year warranty.

Like all Garmin products it's a highly reliable unit. It's easy to use, easy to read, with good color and contrast. Simple enough to operate, my 2 blonde sailing companions mastered the basic functions in an hour or so. If it has any drawbacks, it is the fact that detailed chart info is only available with the (rather expensive) c-chart data cards, avaiable only from Garmin. This has been solved on later (and more expensive) Garmin units by including N. Amer cartorgraphy info. If you buy a 172C I stongly recommend getting the card for your local area. These can be found used on eBay for $40-$70, if you look. I got mine right here over a year ago, and I'm still quite happy!

Ilove the fact that you can adjust the light on screen for night fishing.. others could be to bright.. Ilike its eguipped with WAAS- enabled feature to put you within feet of your target. I bought this product because for the price,technology,and ineeded to upgrade my gps unit

It was the model I was looking for with all the features I wanted. I purchased it because the price was good. I haven't had a chance to use it yet since it is winter and not boating season. I have always had good luck with the Garmin brand.

Easy to use; quite accurate and reliable. Can be used anywhere with local geographic marine maps. Ideally suits my navigational needs on the Chesapeake Bay.

It is a great starter gps for a boat.Easy to work and reads well in the sun. The movement on the gps can be a little slow while turning and needs a second to catch up but does good enough for me.
