I like it, still learning to use features

To begin, realize with every capability, there are inherent complexities!

I LOVE the ability to increase the light to make it easier to see and use.

I LOVE the download feature to get Geo-caching information into the unit. It could include the coded hint, and what would be really helpful is the 2 maps that show on the internet to aid in the location of the area to search.

I like the amount of data and information available, but it is a little confusing about how to access all the information. I am still experimenting with navigation and enjoy this new "toy".

I also bought the cigarette lighter power source, and in my opinion, this should be part of the package, and not an option for separate purchase.

I would like the "GO TO" feature to route via roads, not "As the bird fly’s".

Don't like the power button, it's a bit hard to turn on, but the interface and included mapping seem pretty nice, the true test will come this winter during snowmobile season, can't wait to map the trails...

  Great Device
Review created: 10/14/09

The unit is amazing for trail navigation. It's not so great for road directions. You have to buy additional software to get city directions and to see the topo on your PC you have to buy more software. The user guide is about as good as no directions at all. It only cover bare basics. I've had to just figure it out and search the internet for more in depth instructions. It's a great GPS once you figure it out.

Very functional, dislike battery life and the map on my PC after I transfer the data recorded. It came just in time as I have been moose hunting for 3 weeks in SE Alaska after its arrival.

I have had a magellan GPS and not had so many features. The unit quit working and I had to call Garmin get someone to tell me how to reset the unit. Not very comforting if you are lost in the mountains. Software updates are available but I have not been able to get this done and notified tech support. They recommended I send the unit back but needed receipt from original sale.I am still trying to get the update done and I have only had it a month. Be sure to write down camp coordinates in case you have to reset the unit as all info is lost. I am confident that Garmin will make this right.

The most superior Gps I've every used!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Review created: 06/20/09

I just got my new Colorado 400t last night in the mail and loaded everything. This is my 3rd Gps by Garmin and the easiest one for geocaching yet. Just use the rock n roller and go right to what you need to. This unit is so simple to use my 10 y/o son can pick it up and use it after being shown how just once. Now I know what to get him for his B-Day in August. If he can use it with no problems an adult will really love this one. Thanks again Garmin!!!!!!!!!!!

This GPS is every thing Garmin says it is!

It is very easy to navigate your way through the different modes. Haveing the map constently up so you can see where you are at is great. I have the T model and it shows all the roads with names and even shows forest service roads with numbers and names. I have not figured out how to make and save routes yet, that is the only dislike I have and its most likely me.I bought it becouse I used Garmin GPS's over in Iraq. I trust them!

Very well built unit, Very easy to use compared to older handheld GPS units. I did find some discrepencies with the elevations thoug...when relying on elevations always double check back to the satalite page...elevation on map tends to be off alot. Contours and road features are great. A little pricey but with all its features it is well worth the cost.

  No problems yet
Review created: 06/01/09

I went in with some concerns having read some old reviews. But Most problems were corrected with updates and this met all my criteria for what i needed in a GPS unit. I immediately updated to the latest firmware version and I have not had ONE problem. My only real problem was my initial confusion as how to fully use it. I read the instructions and it explains all the terms, screens, and usages but its not specific on how to "start",having never owned a gps before. so i spent a few hours on-line,testing it out on the trails and eventually figured out most of what i needed it for which was riding the trails on my ATV.

pros:
beautifull large screen you can see in the sun
easy setup with scroll wheel
lightweight/comfortable
so many cool options
preloaded topo maps

cons:
no screen protection
holder for bike/motorcycle/my ATV is a big Monstrosity
no "how to" guide for beginners

  Excellent GPSr
Review created: 05/10/09
by:

The Garmin Colorado 400t is an excellent GPS receiver for trail use. With the optional road maps, it can also be used for driving directions, but is no real substitute for a car-type GPSr such as a Nuvi or such. It is wonderful for Geocaching, but I have still not found a good way to read any notes about my finds.

  Great unit for geocaching.

kcm4 ( 628)

I bought this for geocaching and it works great for that. A drastic upgrade from my old Magellen unit. The USB, color display, plenty of memory; it's great. Geocaching.com sends me a quary once a week. I use Swiss army knife to download that batch of caches to my Colorado and my Nuvi. Very quick and simple; you're up and going in no time.
The unit is simple to use. It goes through more batteries than my old one, but I'll do that for the better display.

Works great, sand got into the front dial , i don't know if they can do anything about that but I backpack in the desert. In The Maze district of Canyonlands if did not show any trails or routes even though maps had the trails. Still a great tool to use...
