Garmin 60CS GPS Receiver

I saw a news show about "geocaching" and immediately thought it would be fun. I enjoy camping, and this could be another facet of getting out of doors for fun (and less work). I checked out the geocaching.com site and read up on their recommendations of a GPS unit. After much review, I decided on a Garmin. I really wanted either the 60 CSX or 76 CSX, but their costs were a bit high just to see if I was going to like geocaching. Financially, it became a toss up between the 60 CS or 76 CS. I ended up with a used 60 CS and it does everything I want it to. I even splurged and bought the City Navigator program because I can see how helpful a GPS unit can be while traveling.

The "CS" indicates the unit has a colored screen and an electronic compass.

As for geocaching use ONLY, the 60 CS and all you need. If you think you'd like to use it for traveling as well, spend the money on either the 60 CSX or 76 CSX. (The "X" indicates additional memory card can be used to provide more memory depending on the size of card being used.)

The Garmin 60CS GPS Receiver is an excellent handheld GPS for the money. The manufacturer has installed many user-friendly features that make the first time buyer or the professional happy. They manufacturer has excellent customer service and many additional add-ons to make this unit an extremely versatile GPS to be used in town, on trips, hunting, fishing, cycling, hiking, four wheeling or camping.
Suggestion:
1. One of the best ways to protect investment is to purchase a Protective Case for this GPS. You can find a top of the in line protective case that protects while allowing full viewing and access to all the features of your GPS unit. A few months ago I attended an introductory GPS class where we used Garmin 60 CSx units. I became infatuated with GPS and the particular devices. In my research, I felt that the 60CSx models were more than I could afford. I found that the 60CS models had everything that I would ever use on a GPS, and was within my price range. Even though the 60CS has been discontinued by Garmin, and the models on eBay are factory refurbished, I feel that it is a good purchase.

I have had my 60cs for almost 2 years now. Although it's been dropped dozens of times and shows over 33,000 miles on it's odometer, it is still going strong. I use it primarily for Geocaching, but also use it to navigate unfamiliar areas. While it only holds 25MB of maps, it's USB connection makes it fairly quick to connect to my computer and replace maps.

Color screen, battery life, and features are everything you will every need. The 60CS will do everything the new ones will do except the removable card. The 56megs of memory is plenty for all the areas that I travel, so I don't think the card is worth the cost of a new one. Because of the new ones being on the market, prices have dropped on these that have been discontinued. This unit is the best deal on near top of the line GPS's.

The main problem that I have with the unit is that none of my computers would recognize it. Garmin said that the device was made prior to Windows Vista. It has lots of conflicts with Vista (who doesn't). I also found the LCD display to be too dark even on the highest setting. I consider this a high priced unit and the display should be clear and clear, it's made for use on the trails and I had difficulty seeing the display sitting in my car

Garmin told me that I would have to upgrade to a 64 bit USB version of Windows Vista. They told me that Vista comes with 32 bit unless you upgrade. I am not that into computers and I hate Vista, but I would have liked to see Garmin come up with a driver that would work with Vista. I downloaded all of the updates with Garmin's tech support and the device was still not recognized by my desktop or laptop computers (both running Window Vista).

To make things worce the Ebay seller does not give refunds. They told me that I had to deal with Garmin as a warranty claim. I had to box up and ship the unit to Garmin after spending 1/2 a day on the phone and there is no telling how long before I get the unit back or if it will work with Windows Vista when I get it back.

I really like this model. The color is great. Turn by turn is great. I have been enjoying it, and using it for everything! It is great for hiking and keeping track of atltitude and miles.

This GPS handheld really packs quite a-lot of options for it's size. Being able to download any Topographical map into makes it extremely versatile as everything is loaded into unit for any travel such as food, motel, entertainment, historic sites, travel services at your finger tips. The extra Geo-Cache feature is quite nice if your into that kind of activity. Only drawback I have found so far is the limited battery life of the unit especially if you run it at night with lighting feature turned on. You can only expect to get about 10-12 hrs of usable battery life per 2 AA batteries

Great unit once you figure out all the features you will never be lost again. I have several other units and by far enjoy this one the best. The large color map is easy to fallow and the declutter feature is great.

about 5 moths with the unit and works excellent i get less then 10ft accuracy very satisfied, the only Negative issue is that the soft woare is too expensive.

I like the complete flexibility to setup the various pages any way you want and also show only the pages you want. This GPS unit is a great performer and the price was excellent. Very capable for the size.

The Garmin GPSMap 60CSX has operated perfectly! It is superfast, especially compared to the GPS V. Battery life is excellent. I use it for mapping new areas where no maps exist, and it works great with its multipoint tracking system. The memory card is another extra in that the whole continental USA road system can be loaded and still have plenty of room for tracking, waypoints and topo maps.
This particular gps will be going with me to Africa in December at which time it will be used in the Super Cub, and on the "road" with the 4x4 truck, to get to the isolated villages for medical work. I am depending on its fast reload and redrawing for this work.
Dislikes: you have to work with the screen colors a bit to get the right combination for daylight, non-backlight viewing.
Likes: having USB and serial capability, as well as saving the old 4-pin system, so my other cables will still work. What a world of difference when uploading via USB! Wow! Overall, an excellent system!

I love the Garmin 60CS GPS, because my husband works in the woods and this makes his job alot easier for him, when looking for wood lots. I decided to buy this product for the fack when I had questions, the seller was wonderful in answering them and was extremely helpful. Alot of times you have question and the sellers just ignores you. I truly recomend this seller to anyone.

LIKE NEW, IN THE ORIGIONAL BOX WITH INSTRUCTIONS. THE PRICE WAS RIGHT. I HAVE USED IT SEVERAL TIMES FOR GEOCACHING. IT WORKS GREAT.

I didn't buy this to get around town, I got it for wilderness hiking and geocaching. It is great for this. Works like a champ and gets you to within feet of your goal. Has a great back tracking feature, works for refinding the car. Lightweight, accurate and easy to load up both for hiking and for geocaching, ties right into the geocache site. I could use a little brighter screen in bright sunlight, but it works well enough. Not so great for traveling on the roads, but I didn't get it for that myself, if you want a gps for driving, you might want to look for something else. I'm very happy with the way it preforms for the applications I got it for.

This gps is very good, nice features, easy to see display from a distance and is much faster than my old etrex legend, I use it in my work.

Perfect for what I want to do with it (snowmobile, boat, motorcycle). Much easier to navigate the controls than my Etrex Legend. Easier to view larger screen. I have not had a chance to put it to the test but I am sure it is going to be everything I was hoping for.

This GPS is everything I had hoped for. The software and maps that come with it are simple but you can purchase more detailed maps and add them your self. it has GPS games that are fun and it is very accurate.

the Garmin takes a back seat to none. it is what i was looking for. it is water prof the batt life is great.i am looking forward to using this hunting season.

The features are just what is needed for my working field activities. For this reason, I don't require extensive memory for mapping, just the enough built-in memory. The altimeter and compass are very useful. The consumer award won by this item helped me decide to buy it.
