  Bummer! This Book Is Engaging/Sad

I read this book because it was on Oprah's book club. It is an easy read but frankly I was glad to be through it. It tells the story of a brave young woman and her struggles through her early years of marriage.

The down side is that it goes from crisis to crisis and there isn't much else. It was a fast read, but a depressing one. I got through it in a couple of sittings, hoping things would look up but they never did.

I probably would not recommend this book even though it was well written and a good story. I just found it too sad.

I thoroughly enjoyed Gap Creek. It was full of unexpected twists and turns. It made me thankful for what we have and it also made me realize you can survive almost any difficulty with stamina, hard work and faith.

Gap Creek: The Story of a Marriage

I found the story that Robert Morgan created to be very good, but his style of writing was not inviting to my own imagination. It created pictures of people and places that were sometimes full and sometimes flat, but never open enough to allow me to enter into the story. I liked the main character, Julie, and felt like I really understood her for the most part. She is strong, tough, and does whatever needs to be done. I didn't like her husband, Hank, but didn't have enough information about him to really understand him. They live a hard life in the short span of time the story takes place. The subtitle of the book is called "The Story of a Marriage", but I felt like the story was just beginning when the book ended. I would liked to have learned more about Julie and Hank before they married and after the story ended. Inspite of Morgan's writing style, the story he tells is a good one.
