Album Notes
GAL COSTA is also available as part of the 5-CD Brazilian import box set TROPICALIA.
Personnel includes: Gal Costa (vocals); Caetano Veloso, Gilberto Gil (guitar, background vocals).
At first hearing, one might be a little put off by the occasional psychedelic excesses of Gal Costa's Tropicalismo debut. While her accompanying Brazilian rockers do go a little overboard in spots, there is also a bona-fide girl group pop song ("Nao Identificado"), beautifully sung post-bossa nova ("Saudosismo"), and the Caetano Veloso-penned new classic ("Baby"), making a path to MPB (Musica Popular Brasileira), the song-oriented genre that emerged soon after the politically suppressed Tropicalia. The indomitable Gal was a major figure in the later musical movement as well.
